It is with a heavy heart that I write this post to share with you the loss of one of Dobereich's cherished companions. Last week Cara lost the battle to lung cancer. It came on sudden, and she was gone within weeks. Cara has spent the last year and half being loved by Jess, Dave, and their two young daughters. Letting Cara leave my home was not a decision that I came onto easily. But I knew that she would be dearly loved and spoiled with Jess and her family, and for this I'm grateful to know that Cara had all the love a dog could want while entering into her golden years. Cara was a show stopper, and she could be handled by anyone. Always loved people, and especially children. We had so much fun together over the years. I know I'm not alone in saying that Cara will be dearly missed. My condolences Jess, Dave, Sierra and Makenna. CH Dobereich's Knocking Them Dead, TT, CGN, UCC 2003 - 2011

I'm crying again...She was amazing. Best snuggler in town. We are sooooo happy that you trusted us with Cara, and Gilda before her. We know how much you loved them both. Two little pieces of my heart are gone with them. Cara was the biggest sweetheart, always knew when we needed an extra kiss or snuggle. Our 3 year old is lost right now, missing her best friend. Cara followed her EVERYWHERE. Had to make sure she was always ok, Im sure she didnt mind the occasional shared snack either Cara will always have a special place in our hearts...Missing her sooo much right now. Thank you again, Monica for sharing her with us. XO

I am deeply sorry for your loss. My lab is now a senior and I'm sure before I know it we will be here with you. Keep your head high and keep her in your heart, you know that's what she would have wanted.

I am so very sorry for your loss! There are few things in life that touch us like the devotion and love of a doberman and from reading this thread I know that Cara was a very special dog! I'm sure she will forever be in your hearts!
RIP Cara.

OK, so now I have a funny story about Cara to share. She's might not be here making new memories. But man, she left a few good ones that will last a lifetime. In 2006 I had just finished a long week-end of puppy meet & greet with the owners of the U-litter (Boomer x Phoenix). Once everyone was gone, I took the dogs out for a run, and then flopped on the couch to cuddle with the dogs and watch a bit of TV before bed. Syris assumed her position beside me, Cara only stayed with me for a bit. Then opted to go into her crate. I couldn't see Cara's crate from where I was sitting, the fireplace was between us. But I saw her go into the kitchen and head back to her crate. I sort of knew what she was up to. Since she had been known to take the odd empty jar of mayo or dog food can from the recycle bin. For some reason, maybe because I was so tired, I just chuckled and decided she could keep prize for a few moments. I settled in and started getting into a program, and apparently Cara made a few more trips back and forth into the kitchen, ever so quietly that I "almost" didn't notice. When I got to her crate she she gave me one of those squinty eye grins, all submissive like, delivered with a big kiss. I could see a can in the crate, but then a noticed a red bow. As soon as I saw the bow, it hit me. One of my clients (Carolyne) was so sweet to have baked me a batch of oatmeal cookies. I had put them on the kitchen counter. Cara had lifted the cellophane, then proceeded to carefully take one cookie at a time. She brought each cookie into her crate where I couldn't see her. One by one, she ate every last cookie, all that was left was the bow!

OH MY GOD! That is soooooooo Cara!!!!!!!!! Reminds me of something she did last year. It was a really hot summer day and I could not be bothered with cooking. I sent Dave out to get Subway. I got busy with the girls and didnt eat right away. I come walking down the hall way to the kitchen to get my sub once I got the girls settled down, couldnt find it anywhere. Asked Dave and he said it was on the counter, so I checked again. NOT there. Confused, I walked into the living and there is sneaky Miss Cara laying on the couch. She sooo knew she was in sh*t! The subway wraping was hanging out the corner of her mouth and around her on the couch. I was sooo mad, for like 5 seconds. I couldnt help but laugh at the stinker who was trying to play it soo cool.

Subway sandwich, $9.00. Picture of Jess's face while looking at her dog with wrappers hanging out her mouth...priceless. The thing about Cara is that she was so subtle. Like a Ninja, one second she's gone, and so was your food! Thankfully the oatmeal cookies didn't have the same effect of her as you mentioned it does to you Gary. Um. Remind me to never give you oatmeal cookies when you're over.
