Hello all
My husband is the picture expert so I will have to wait for him to put up some posts.
Our little Nova is doing well - really making herself at home - you would think she owned the place:)
I do have a question for experienced Dobe owners...what is the best way to deal with howling, barking and crying. We have been practising putting her in her crate/"pen" while we are at home and OMG I have never heard such a little thing make so much noise. This in addition to acting like a little monkey and climbing the pen. She is really good at going in the crate and sleeping at night and when she is tired she has no issues going into the pen to sleep. But she is not happy being cordoned off, even for short periods, unless she is ready to pass out. I have been working from home the last couple days to assist in Nova's transition to a new home and family. I need her to get used to being alone for short periods. This afternoon I had to leave for about 1.5 hours to pick up my son and when I came back I could hear her from the driveway:(
We feel really bad and want to get some suggestions on how to make Nova more comfortable with being on her own. She is still a baby so I do expect this to occur - we just want to make sure we are using the right approach in dealing with this without giving in - she is a smart cookie and I know she will have me wrapped:)

Kazi is doing the same thing when she is left in her xpen and we leave the room. We can put her into her crate, and she is fine for a little bit...she usually just falls asleep. We leave her with a bullwinkle, and have the radio on and she's fine.
It will take a while for them to get used to being seperated, just don;t give in to her when she is crying or barking. Then she will associate getting let out to barking.

So I guess the Ferber method works for dogs too!!! Who would have thought I could use my book for my son and my dog - what an investment!

You want an honest experienced suggestion so here it is, don't do what we did with Zeus III. I think there is a section in the manual about crating from Monica. Follow her crating suggestions and directions of the manual or from Monica by phone or email. You want to get that going and not end up like we have with Zeus. We didn't use crates with the 1st 3 dobermans and the 4th by 2 years old was fine alone in the house and was never really crated after he was housebroken. Zeus III we are at that point that we have to get him used to being alone in the house and the training on that is starting this week. I have to be honest other than by 2 years old starting sleeping at night in his crate Zeus never really accepted his crate and we let him get away with it. When he howled as a puppy we let him in bed with us at night and we were guilty of that right from the start. Long story and I accept the blame but don't do what we did. Zeus slept with us in our bed for 2 years up to last Nov. He was just such a sweet loving pup and we let it happen and enjoyed the cuddling and he did too. Don't do it..... He was very easy to housetrain also part of why he never was crated much as a pup. He made virtually no messes and I just calculated his movements from meals and figured him out quick. My wife works at home and I do multiple times a week work at home and my work is based out of my home office, so he was never really alone. On travel days for business he comes with me as I love his company and he had to spend some time alone when I was out of the truck doing business. So it's sounds crazy but his crate that he accepted over time fom the start is a Dodge Mega Cab pickup. We started last fall during the day making him spend time in his crate and then moved him from sleeping in our bed to sleeping in his crate beside the bed and then in the hallway just outside our bedroom. So he's been sleeping in the crate since November. With him travelling with me multiple times a week he's accepted the truck more or less as his crate! He will spend hours in the truck without any issues and very content being alone in the truck. The crate in the house during the day or alone in the house during the day, he carries on. That's our project underway to resolve.

So, N-litter people.....week one is complete now and share with us your experiences that you've had during the week.
Kazi is sleeping in her crate well, only waking once during the night to "do her business"., then it's back to bed....lets see....she just chewed into the corner of the drywall in the kitchen...loves to play tug-of-war with any bag that you're carrying, regardless of what is inside of it. She's already jumping onto the couch, already climbing stairs (don't worry we don't let her even try to go down them), her teeth bite into you like a crocodile's would....or so I feel that they would!
So come on....share your stories

Oh oh oh, looks who's lovin his lil’sister now eh? I taped Brooklyn and Kona's ears today, isn't Kazi ready yet? Actually, I believe Nova should be ready...yes? Two more members from the N-litter have joined the forum. Let the picture wars begin, while I sit back and enjoy all the wonderful photography...lol. See Gary, you don't need one of your own, you can just watch these little monkey grow-up. You get to be online uncle Gary, all the cuteness, but no 3:am wake-up calls or messes to clean.

Oh the joys of puppyhood!
It's pretty obvious in the pictures of Dante and Kazi that they really look to be bonding and almost a certain calm ain the pictures with both dogs and Kazi taking her lead from Dante.
I remember when Carol at DT got Monty and you could see him doing the same in pictures Carol would post of Petey and Monty.
Kazi and Nova are a a beautiful pair of pups and listening to the boss ( Monica) let the postingf begin!! That's when they really get cute with their posts on.
Yup this is awesome being an Uncle and enjoying the fun and not the work ;D

Asha asked me to say Hi to her brothers and sisters from N-litter, cousins, uncles and aunts. My cute baby was teal/yellow collar. She is adjusting well to our routine and makes her big brother Gino tired of non-stop games. Too cute to watch! The second day after her arrival

Hi Lisa.....awesome that you're here on Dobereich......we met with Dante's sister Luka's mom tonight. She, and her daughter Ella came by tonight to visit with Kazi. They think that she is so cute, and it has brought back memories for them as well. We're going to take Kazi over to their house this week to meet their girl, Luka.
