Our beautiful boy Hismerh Prince Piere *Petey* lost his 20 month battle with DCM on August 14, 2011. He was only 4 years and 9 months old. Thankfully Monica had entrusted me with a male puppy, Monty a year ago or I would be going off the deep end. The pain of loss of a special heart dog at such a young age is unbearable. Even though I knew it was coming, I forgot just how bad this kind of loss feels, how empty I feel with out him here. If I didn't already have Monty....there would NEVER again be a Dobe in my life. The emotional and financial drain of DCM on my family has really taken its toll. All of our hearts are broken. Hoping and praying for a long life for Montman. He is a sweet, quiet, happy boy, who has in the last two weeks developed eyes for only me. He is becoming my new boy. These are the last pictures of the boyz together on vacation only days before Petey died. They had a BLAST together, the best week ever playing and swimming.

Carol sending and you your family my deepest sympathy. Such a tragic loss and such a young age. Petey was an awesome dog and you did everything over the top to give him the best life and health care every dog dreams of.
I know there are no words that can ease the pain or make it better but just know you are in our thoughts and prayers to help you get through your grief.
Stay strong and give Monty a pet, I'm sure it's very hard for him too.

I know that I have already written you in a private email. However I want to extend my heart-felt support during this really painful time. Although it was a complete rip-off to lose Petey so young, I'm so happy that you managed to get another wonderful year beyond what was expected. The fact that Petey and Monty shared such a great bond and had so much fun playing together makes me even more sure that you gave Petey everything he could have wanted in life.
During the time the boys were together Petey taught Monty just how to love you and mend your broken heart. Dogs do pick-up on each-other mannerisms the same way people do when in long term relationships. So I believe that there will always be a part of Petey reflected through Monty's eyes.

You wrote on Facebook: "No way around it.....have to go through it" That's so much true.
The quality of life is more important than life itself. Petey got the best doggy life ever! He decided to go after the wonderful vacation with you and your family. Think about... he didn't feel pain. HE WAS HAPPY.
Monty kisses will help to go through...

We never knew your boy, but as I write this I have tears swelling in my eyes......my heart/our hearts go out to you during your time of loss. We all understand the 'life' a dog brings into our lives...both individually and to the entire family. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this time.

Carol, I havent' been around here for sometime, on any forum board for that matter, but I remember clearly how much you went through on DT when you first found out that Petey had DCM. I was very much empathetic to you then, as I am now. I am so sorry for your loss, and I know that he will forever be a part of you.
I also know that Monty's neck will be good for soaking up a lot of tears, and thankful he is there for you.
My heartfelt condolences to you. I will hug my doberkids a little tighter.
