Whenever I give Reyna a REALLY good treat... like a raw marrow bone, large chewie thing, etc... she gets really agitated! She's so happy to have it, gingerly takes it from my hand, and slowly circles the apartment nose whistling while holding it in her mouth. She'll come over and plunk it in my lap, softly pick it up again, etc... then eventually spend about 15-20 minutes attempting to 'bury it' in her bed... pushing around the blankets with her nose, digging, pawing, standing up, circling, over and over again. It certainly keeps her busy, and is really quite funny to watch, but I wonder if these to her is stressing her out? Or is she just being a silly doberdog?! I would imagine it's because I gave her a PRIZE. A VERY high value reward, and she really just wants to save it. She isn't posessive of it at all. I can take it away, so can Mark, and if the cats wander over she could care less. Also, if Lola (her viszla BFF) comes in and snatches it, she happily shares. Thoughts? Does everyone else's crazy dogs do the same thing?

I don't feel that it is stressful for her. When we just had Dante, we had left raw pork chops on the stove, feeling that they were far enough away of his reach. Well, when we came home, they were no longer there. Ultimately, he ate three, but decided to hide one for a snack later. No doubt, he paced thru the house trying to find just the perfect spot to hide the chop. He ultimately decided to hide the chop in the bed, our bed! He pulled the decorative pillows on to the floor, then the pillows, pulled the comforter and sheets back, and tried to bury the bone in the mattress, of all places.
I was stresses over that one!

Jack doesn`t do this, but our previous guy did — whenever we gave him a large treat, such as a marrow bone or even a large-dog-sized cookie that he couldn`t deal with in one swift crunch. Whining the whole time, he would scratch in corners, try to get behind the couch, etc., in an attempt to to bury whatever it was. And if he could get outside, he really would bury it, which didn`t help the appearance of the yard. It was funny to watch, but I did think the pacing was stressful for him, so we just stopped buying him large-sized treats. He got treats designed for small dogs. I`m sure the people at the pet store thought we had a chihuahua.

Now Reyna's big bro does the similar thing without the whistling. He loves the tartar busters from global and when I give it to him, he takes it and vanishes somewhere. What he really does is takes his treat, drops it on the floor and stares at it Give him about a minute to process and he goes loco! He'll pounce on it, claw it, nudge it, bark at it, circle around it. He does this for about 5 minutes before he finally starts chewing it. He does this every time. It's hilarious ;D
