I personally have never used a soft crate before but if Auguste respects his crate then it should be fine. My only thing is that if he decided to claw/scratch it then it wouldn't take long for him to get out. My question is how sturdy is it? What if your car suddenly had to swerve, would the crate go with it? Considering its not metal it may tumble with the dobe inside. Then again, I know nothing about it so that's just my take on it.

Ive never used a soft crate as well maybe others will chime in that have.....
To me it looks like a good idea, convenient+ and portable. But Im with Lana, Auguste needs to be able to respect the crate otherwise you will end up with scratches and him possibly ripping it.... If he is fairly good in the crate with no fussing I would consider it.

What we did is we plied a comforter in 3 ti fit the size of the cage plate and covered everything with a baby cradle fitted sheet witch folds underneath the plate... He riped everything off once while he was bored bot normally is good with it... I think the soft crate would be good at least for the supervised use... As of leaving the dog in it for a couple hours, that's another story I guess only the experience will tell us

I would say forget it. Any metal mesh crate I've seen is portable and folds down to just the base in sconds and usually have a carry handle. That will fit easily in any car trunk etc. Have a throw blanket and you are done.
The shows I was around they usually have a room full of crated dogs and 95% of what i saw was wire crates with a pillow inside and blanket over top. As you are doing shows you will see how space gets filled with crates and they also become storage tops for you also. So again something solid and rigid and easly folds....wire crate again. You also have another crate beside the home crate you can leave your dog and know he's secure and safe.
If the dog starts ripping, chewing pawing that crate you are asking about will be ruined in no time.

I'm not sure on this (I think I read it somewhere) but if you're going attending shows, some don't even allow soft crates. Some turn a blind eye if your dog is super obedient but most dogs are usually in a wire crate.
You would really have to supervise Auguste when he's in it. Diesel loves his crate but I know for sure he'll get out of that one. He'll end up ripping it somehow.

Why don't you want to use wire or plastic crate? A soft crate is not safe for a dog to travel.
My dogs like wire crates.

Jack has three crates. A big wire one, which is his sleeping crate here at home, and a hard-sided plastic one that lives permanently in the SUV. It keeps him safe in the vehicle and at training.
But we have a collapsible soft-sided crate that we take when we go visiting overnight and in hotels. It's very handy because Bill used to have to dismantle the hard-sided vehicle crate and haul it in and out of hotels and the homes of friends and relatives. I won't give details about the soft-sided crate because we got it secondhand and the company seems to be out of business.
Because Jack is so used to being crated, he's quite happy in the soft-sider. Makes no attempt to get out.
I've definitely seen soft-sided crates at shows, but it might be worth checking with Monica to find out about the rules. A crate at shows would definitely be handy, though we never used one. Just put Jack in his crate in the car.
And . . . soft-sided crates also have other uses. This fall, my sister used ours to corral and transport the peacock who took up residence at their place this past summer. He needed to be caught and taken to a winter home.

At the show you can have a mesh crate (soft crate), wire crate, plastic crate, wooden crate. As long as your puppy stays safely inside it, and its the right size, its ok.
There are advantages to the soft crate and disadvantages. The soft crate is easy to transport and takes little space, and lightweight. Watch for washable parts, otherwise its not too fun to try and clean if there is an accident in the crate.
The crates have tabs on the bottom so that you stake them down in the ground at the outdoor shows or when camping. But if you forget the dog can roll their crate a very long distance.
Over-all, if you have a gentle dog that respects their crate and just lays down in it. Then this crate is a good alternative. if your puppy digs, chews, then this is not a safe option for you. Just think, he`s only being contained in the crate by a zipper! Now if this is only to keep him in while in the vehicle, its not such a big risk.
My personal recommendation for a show crate is a suitcase style folding wire crate. I have an SUV style crate, its 42" long, but its only 22" wide instead of the usual 28-30". Or a plastic Vari kennel. Carrying the vari kennel in and out of the building is difficult. You can get a cart, or wheels, which would make the vari then my #1 choice.

thanks everyone for your impressions Auguste also has a metal mesh crate we could bring... But the I was trying to save some dollars by using the car If we take the truck, then I would bring his metal create ... So with luggage for 2-3 days, the crate Will not fit in the car's trunk... In fact last time we traveled there was just enough storage for our luggages So that's the same reason why we didn't buy a plastic crate neither. That's the reason why I was looking into a substitute Auguste is just great in the car, as soon as we leave he fall asleep, never broke anything even though he is always loose in the car. But during winter shows it's going to be too cold to leave him in the car. Another reason I would like him to be created beside us inside the show it that he would probably be more calm because he would be relaxing within the show atmosphere.. I will post my reviews when I will take my decision if we buy one

If you're worried about leaving him in the vehicle in the winter, here's an alternative to consider: 216.15.205.11/inventoryD.asp?item_no=MRKC&CatId={24060773-58BF-4B75-969A-1FCF79EAB356}We have one of these covers for Jack's crate -- and it keeps him incredibly warm. He's like a little furnace generating so much heat that the temp in his crate is positively balmy. Because of this, winter is actually less of a problem than summer, when we need to leave the vehicle parked in the shade with all the windows down and the tailgate wide open. And even then, we check frequently to make sure that everything is okay. We have also left the vehicle locked with the AC going, but this worries me, too. What if it stalls? Etc.? This is when I think a soft-sided crate would be really handy.
