According to Thomas Walkom's column in this morning's Star, a private member's bill calling for rescinding Ontario's pit bull ban has passed second reading in the legislature. The bill, which is sponsored by MPPs representing the NDP, Liberals and Tories, needs only third reading to become law. I plan to contact our local MPP to urge him to support the bill when it comes up for third reading. You may wish to do the same with your own MPPs. www.thestar.com/news/canada/politics/article/1138827--walkom-why-ontario-s-pit-bull-ban-should-end

Sure everyone has heard this, but this bill died before being passed when McGuinty prorogued the legislature. I don't know if that means it will have to be reintroduced for the first two readings, but it's a sad day. BSL needs to go for sure.

Thanks, Martin. I hadn't thought of that, so I looked it up.
Here's what Parliament's website says: "Bills which have not received Royal Assent before prorogation are 'entirely terminated' and, in order to be proceeded with in the new session, must be reintroduced as if they had never existed. On occasion, however, bills have been reinstated by motion at the start of a new session at the same stage they had reached at the end of the previous session; committee work has similarly been revived."
So there is a possibility that the entire process may not need to restart at Square 1.

So there is a possibility that the entire process may not need to restart at Square 1. Let's hope so. What ever happened to the minister that proposed it and got it passed, then ended up killing the bicyclist in Toronto himself. Micheal Bryant? Can't remember, certainly if dogs get euthanized for attcking people he should have at least went to jail. Anyone know off hand...man I should look that up. Martin

Yes not a baseball fan myself, fun to watch in person, but dreadfully boring on the television. Here is hoping he does take on the cause up here as well. Disappointing to have the bill to revoke BSL die because McGuinty prorogues the Legislature. On another note with regards to my last post in this thread, Michael Bryant is still free and recently wrote a book. So kill a bike courier with your car intentionally and you get to write a book, bite another dog if you are a dog and get euthanized...seems a little hypocritical... Martin
