Scarlet has been driving us nuts for a good 2 weeks now with jumping... Constant jumping up, and boy can she jump high. Shell jump at us if we are standing there eating, holding a toy, playing fetch, or for anything she is generally interested in. She jumps when she greets us, and does it to others as well. She plowes into us full force when brining back a ball during fetch, and we all know how strong these guys can be! Its getting really annoying, and we are trying our best to control it but we are obviously not being effective. What tipped me off to write this tonight was when she jumped on julian while he was walking to put down her food bowl and spilled all of the kibble and stew everywhere! And she knows perfectly well that she is suppose to sit there across the kitchen in a down stay, and wait for her food. We put her bowl down, and she doesn't get it until she gets released... hmmm apparently not tonight!! ...So its not only the jumping thing, I think she is testing us more often now. Is this a common behaviour for just over a year? Some phase where they test your patience, when they very well know how to act....
Anyway, for the two of us, we can easily see her jump coming, so we put a knee out and try to block it.. Tell her to sit, down, stay etc but it doesn't curb the jump... Again, obviously not working and not sure how to fix it appropriately. Any suggestions?

You are not alone Gino was a horrible jumper. He outgrew it. He doesn't jump on us anymore. Asha behaves like Scar. I am working hard to stop it. I am not sure what will work for you: - catch her paws and hold - they don't like it - lift your knee and push her away - pull her by collar and force into sit position - turn your back to her Asha is getting better...jumping is very common Doberteen behaviour. We need to teach them to respect our space. Use your body (not hands) to push her away from your space. That's what I do with my dogs.

She needs to come and visit Auntie Kerrie and Tante Barbie....it won't help her jumping, or help her to remember her "manners" ( remember they all go thru that stage where they literally act like they have forgotten everything that you taught them, and then suddenly they remember---like magic )....but it will give you a break...lol

I am not sure what will work for you: - catch her paws and hold - they don't like it . . . Lisa's first suggestion is what worked with Jack. When he tried to jump on us, we would grab his front paws and hold them (gently) without saying anything and remaining absolutely stone-faced till he became uncomfortable and started to try to pull away (this didn't take very long). Then we would let go, tell him to sit, and praise, praise, praise when he did. This, combined with added maturity, pretty much ended the all-out jumping on us. Of course, this works only if you have both hands free -- and aren't carrying anything, such as a full cup of coffee. When he was younger, I ended up drenched in my morning coffee more than once. LOL. But this hasn't happened in a long time.

Thanks for all the suggestions... I think I will try grabbing her paws as nothing else seemed to work. Hope she grows out of it soon lol... Yeah aside from the jumping, omg she has been such a devil this week she's gotten into so much crap. and yay.... :oJulians going away all weekend so I have her to myself, don't be surprised if we are exhausted at training Sunday lol. Are Kazi and Asha going back to the stage where they are acting crazy?!
and ps. I think if she went to visit Barb and Kerrie she would learn how to snuggle really well LOL. You know, Kerrie would teach her a flying hug and Barb would give her kisses every time she asked her to sit like her sis Autumn;) hahaha.

Auguste also like to jump on people... That's why I'm not even trying the CGN test He jumps at us to greet and when playing... I hope he will stop when he gets older (hopefully before he gets realy old!!) I'll try the catch and release trick since I never heard of it ... It might work !

Ohhh man. Sometimes I think Reyna is "the milkman's" puppy... She has lots of Dobereich characteristics, but I have a sinking suspicion I got away with the calmest doberman ever. No doubt, when I can finally get Reyna a brother/sister, they will be the devil incarnate.
The only time she jumps is at ONE of my friends, Andrea. Andrea is Lola's mom (Reyna's best friend), and she goes INSANE when she sees her. Andrea encourages it though... :S
Oh, or when she rocket launches herself at me from 6 feet away somedays when I pick her up from daycare hahah! Good thing she's only 60lbs!

Jack was nearly three before we even attempted his CGN, whereas Scarlet was not quite a year old when she tried it (I think I'm right about her age -- Andreina will, I'm sure, correct me if I'm wrong). If Jack had been the same age as Scarlet, she would have blown him away! I think the girls tend to start settling down at a younger age than the boys -- though this is a completely unscientific, and perhaps unsubstantiated, observation. Auguste will come along. Jack really didn't start getting a brain till he was about 20 months old (and sometimes I still wonder).

hahahaha.....I'm not sure our girl will be start settling down soon.... I mentioned the same thing to Monica....suggesting up to another year before Kazi "settles down".....HAH....she suggested to me maybe another 3....YIKES!!!! Laughing aside, she is doing really well on her weight loss, and we can see improvement. She is still in the 80's for her weight, but she is looking good! As for her jumping, I am trying to grab her paws and hold them...then put her in a sit and praise, praise.....I'm working on your suggestion Dyane....but I know it takes time! ;D When she comes jumping at me, it is like a freight train going thru....lol...she is SO powerful! and then she can just give you the look with those huge chocolate eyes....and she is just a little puppy again....she is definately our "baby girl"!

She is thinking more now sometimes about decisions she makes.. yet still acting out like a puppy sometimes when she doesn't get her way. I don't think they mature till 3 years old either lol... Scarlet's best friend Coco just turned 3, and she is such a mature lady compared to Scarlet. Its so funny to watch them interact, as Scarlet is always the antagonizer jumping all over Coco and barking at her to play. Coco enjoys grazing in the grass and running the trails and in the forest at the park while Scarlet prefers to wrestle and act like an annoying baby sister biting at her ears . Auguste looks like such a goofy happy boy in all ur photos and videos, I am sure you will miss his antics once he matures Have fun with him and the joys of training hehe.

Just finally reading this. Diesel is a huge jumper. But as with every other puppy characteristic, it goes away with age. Training them properly does help out too. Diesel sometimes does this half jumps when I come home and I just ignore him. It's hard ignore him though when he's so happy to see me come home but he knows better. I can't even remember how many times I've pushed him off me or used the knee trick but I guess it paid off. He can jump on me though but that's if I let him....and I do tell him it's ok. With that said, jumping is not completely off the table...it's just that he needs to know when it's ok to do it and when he needs to stay put on the ground

That's a slim chance Asha would ever pass the stage of acting crazy I did not teach Asha "flying hugs". She does it perfectly. N-litter puppies have it in their genes I guess.

Well....today was the first day ever that Kazi went to doggy-day-care. Whew...let me tell you we were 2 worried parents today as our little girl went to "care". We couldn't wait for the phone call telling us that she was alright....after all of our issues with Dante and his experiences with day-care. I am surprised though that she is still awake ...
