Calling all U-Litter parents! I know it's a long way off, but I thought I'd start a U-Litter thread. Reyna is slated to get a brother from this litter, and I can't wait. Poor Monica is going to have put up with my excitement for the next 8 months haha! I've already picked potential names (both call name and registered name) for this little monkey... Monica's the only one who knows so that no one else can claim them first LOL!! TOP SECRET until picking day!

Wow, somehow I missed this thread until now. Congratulations, Joanne! How exciting! Now you can share the "joys" of dealing with male puppy brains — or lack thereof.
Did you read Lana's and Andreina's recent confessions? At one point when Jack was very young, I went through something similar, and I've had puppies before, though never a male Dobe pup (our previous Dobe was beyond the puppy stage when he came to us). But Reyna is such a good girl that maybe she will keep your new little guy in line.
Can't wait to find out his name!

Oh the... "what the hell did I get into??" confessions? LOL!
I cried leaving Monica's with Reyna on my lap in the passengers seat... "OMG what do I DO WITH HER?? What if I hurt her or do something wrong??" Was all I could think. But she was the best little puppy ever... gawd knowing my luck I'm getting the devil incarnate this time!! HAHAHA!! If Reyna has anything to say about it though, this little guy is going to be set straight RIGHT from the start. I can't wait!

Somehow, the conversation will be different leaving with the second pup.....I assure you!
It goes something like this....what did we just do? are we sure? omg I hope (1st dog) likes him/her? Omg! Can we return the pup? Two years later, we are still asking the same questons...LOL.
The second dog is a game-changer. But saying that, they have definately changed our life, the direction our life has taken. Because of them, we have made wonderful friends and acquaintances.....but most importantly we have/and are learning to live life.

I just absolutely love Apollo, and adore Cajun. I hope that more prospective owners start to post away on this thread and introduce themselves.....we love getting to hear the stories before and after the dog comes home.
It's about 3 months to go....and that will go by sooooo fast.

I just absolutely love Apollo, and adore Cajun. I hope that more prospective owners start to post away on this thread Prospective owners? They might have to pry the puppies away from Monica. I know she's looking for a Juno Jr. from this group. She might just take all 3 top female reservations for herself! Who could blame her though, Juno is such a sweetheart and there's a lot of her in her big boy Apollo. Momma Juno says do her proud Apollo! Martin

I know it's still a few months away, but new owners want to start thinking and preparing their "home" for the new arrival....crates, collars, leashes, food, training...yes even that! For those owners who are also getting their pups ears cropped, they will need to learn the ear taping techniques also. Monica will give you a couple lessons prior to picking up your puppy, and you can always go back to her for "touch up training". As well, there are other Dobereich owners who will gladly offer their experience as well....they have ALL been trained by Monica in ear-taping, so each will offer his/her own way of doing it claiming theirs is "the right way". LOL. You will hear this more often than not.....
As for training, if you live within a 2 hour drive of Monica, I highly suggest coming to Monica for training. You may hear some people "chirp" that all they want is for their dog to do basic commands. i.e. sit, down, stay.....that's great for a Labrador Retreiver, but you have chosen a Doberman, and you can't measure the 2 types of dogs the same. Each dog is different, and you have an obligation to your dog to take him/her for training for both of you. At training, you will learn with your dog, and your "bond" will grow much deeper than if you did only basic training. Feel free to question any of the forum members...post questions, send private messages (PM) to members....get all of your questions answered. No question is silly, as I can promise you we have all asked them.....I will post in the training thread regarding training.
So, enjoy the excitement leading up to the arrival of your new puppy. Get your camera in order, look into pet insurance also as accidents can happen anywhere ( our boy Dante was in daycare and suffered a "pad" injury resulting in $4000 in fees---having the insurance was a blessing ), check into a dog walker and kennels and get references for both.....and of course, start counting down the days.

I'm going to stick my 2 cents in while we still have a penny...nobody would want to pay a nickel for my thoughts. Among the things you might consider as well is ....if, you want the ears cropped. No one says you have to have them cropped and spend hours taping and learning to tape only to have all your puppy pictures look like your puppy is wearing some kind of dunce cap! Natural ears are a choice too. Lisa's dobes Asha and Gino are great examples of how good dobes look with natural ears. Our first dobe from Monica, Isi had natural ears, years before it started to become commonplace in North America. I won't speak for Monica, but she was one of the few breeders in Ontario and likely North America that didn't insist on the ear crop. It was one of many reasons we decided to go with Dobereich. Many sites on the net have long diatribes for and against the "crop & dock" issue. I will say for me the dock which happens in the first 3-4 days (when it is supposed to be painless, or less so anyway) is important...broken tails and broken anything not nailed down later on being the reason. Ears are a different cosmetic surgery and done later. It is a personal choice or preference, I was always for the crop...until we had Isi that was, I hate saying my wife was right...(but she was.) I guess I am saying that for me natural ears are my choice but to each his own. I will say that there is no discount for going natural, it is and should be a cosmetic / ethical not a monetary decision. So one more big thing to look into or talk about. Isi came from a litter of 12 and was the only one who wasn't cropped. So I know at that time anyway I was in the minority. I will say though that her littermates realized she had more ear than them and they did take to nipping them because they could, but I didn't miss all the ear taping and the issues that can come along with it. I'd also like to say that if we didn't already have 2 dogs and were in a different life situation than we find ourselves in right now...that this is definitely the litter we would be making a reservation for! So if you are thinking about a dobe this is a great litter to start with. Martin

Well said Martin......I was on the fence about ear cropping with Kazi.....crop...natural. I was very torn, and eventually ( the morning of the surgery actually ) went with the ear crop....that being said, our next dobe, I believe, will be a natural. I love the natural ears, and the cropped look as well.....but I really struggled with Kazi's crop...the blood stained cloths...argh. I felt so bad, and guilty also for doing that to her. Our first dobe love was our neighbours dog, Kazaan--( Kazi's namesake ), and he had natural ears. He may have not looked "as fierce", but I swear you would NEVER come into his yard and leave intact...lol!
