Awww... you made my evening Asha is my fourth natural Doberman. I absolutely love silky floppy ears. My respect goes to Monica for allowing people to choose. Like Martin I have chosen Dobereich kennel because I could get a natural high quality puppy. There are only 2 puppies in N-litter left natural. Is that right Monica? That's really nice to hear from you Barb and Andreina that you would like to have your next puppy with natrual ears I am dreaming about a Doberman with a natural tail... Here is my natural girl from N-litter. She gets many compliments and nobody ever questioned if Asha was a Doberman.

Prospective owners? They might have to pry the puppies away from Monica. I know she's looking for a Juno Jr. from this group. She might just take all 3 top female reservations for herself! Who could blame her though, Juno is such a sweetheart and there's a lot of her in her big boy Apollo. Momma Juno says do her proud Apollo! Martin Juno, well we all know that she defines the word "kind", such a special dog, there's no words really. But its not just Juno in this mix that has me so excited. Apollo is Mr. Juno Jr. A very special and kind male just like both his parents. His pappa Rhody is retired now, and I'm thrilled that Apollo will carry on his line. Rhody is the best lil dude ever... and my sweetheart! Another dog in this pedigree that is so dear to me, taken just 5 weeks ago, is my lovely Phoenix. Then if that wasn't enough to make me go gooey, we add Cajun, so sweet she could give you a toothache! Two full years since Cajun has had a litter. I have to watch Scarlet strutting her stuff every Sunday with Andreina and Julian just rubbing it in my face how I let that one slip through my fingers...lol. But no, I will not keep them all... just one very special one... I hope!

Nothing wrong with lazy. You watch, this litter will have little "devils".....Probably not though, BUT...you just never know.

Our first dobe love was our neighbours dog, Kazaan--( Kazi's namesake ), and he had natural ears. He may have not looked "as fierce", but I swear you would NEVER come into his yard and leave intact...lol! It is amazing how much more approachable people are when they see a dobe with natural ears, even when they recognize it is a Doberman... Isi was certainly less "fierce" or scary looking than say Juno, and like Juno she was just a big goofy baby. Although you wouldn't knock twice or ring the bell at our house however, and believe you'd live through the experience because when Isi barked she'd use the big girl bark and Juno is like that too, of course once we let you in Isi would sniff you then ignore you, but Juno gets all excited like you are some long lost friend she's missed terribly since puppyhood! Isi was definitely our dog...I think Juno believes she is everyone's dog! Andreina, the thing Steph loved most about Isi's ears as a puppy was they were so big she could wrap them all the way around her muzzle and even though Isi couldn't see her she'd just give Steph the sweetest little puppy kisses. Steph totally loved playing with her big ears. Martin

Not to say that they don't look good natural but it's always the owner's preference. I've always been used to dobes with cropped ears so there lies my choice. I do feel bad when I see the ears post surgery....throughout the whole healing process (especially when your pup scratches the hell out of it) but then it does eventually heal. I kept a close eye on Diesel so his ear managed to heal pretty quickly - though he did get a few scratches here and there. Docked tails are a must for me though. I can't stress enough how painful it is when a long tail gets caught onto something especially to an adult dog - that lil' bit of pain a few days after they are born is worth it to me.

Well, the countdown is officially on in our house! Only a few weeks until PUPPIES! Even though they don't come home until June, I just can't wait to meet them all and rub their little pink bellies! I haven't seen any other U-litter parents pop up on the forum yet... I know they're out there, so hopefully they'll join soon!

Hi I'm new here.. just saw the forum on the site recently (don't know how I've missed it all these months of checking & re-checking for news & updates...) and then saw this particular thread so decided to join in.
I'm Korina and am on the list for a female from the U-litter. I met Cajun last fall and of course fell in love with her (and I think she liked me too - we snuggled) so I'm counting the days now for my baby to be born.
This will be my first Doberman (and first dog ever) so I'm super-excited and looking forward to hopefully many years of love. I've been reading and researching (and reading and researching), have put the cat's food on a new high table and her litter box in the basement (with a new hole cut in the door for her to get down there). The crate (donated by a friend) is ready to go but will make some adjustments by adding a piece of cardboard to cut it in half and make it feel cozier. I even bought a cute inexpensive dog bed which the cat has been sleeping on for the last 6 months (lol). Still have to get a baby gate and the list goes on... Researching vets within walking distance (i live in downtown west Toronto so at least 6-8 within a few km of here).... Have already explored tons of dog parks as well (including off-leash ones for the future) and I know we'll be exploring many together.
Anyway - just wanted to say hello and introduce myself briefly. I will have lots of questions for you all in the weeks and months to come.

Hi Korina!! WELCOME to the Dobereich family!! I live downtown Toronto too, how exciting!! I am getting a boy. My baby girl, Reyna, is from the M-litter and her brother Diesel (and owner Lana) live pretty close, so Reyna gets to play with her brother quite often... and they LOVE each other! I'll PM you my contact info. Cheers! jo

Welcome Korina to Dobereich family If that's your first Doberman you may have many questions. We are here to help you. Monica will provide you with lots of info. The most important not to take your puppy to dog parks before she gets all shots. Puppy immunity is weak and she may get sick. You may open a new thread and ask all questions you have.

thanks both to Jo & Lisa for welcoming me... What an unexpected bonus to getting a dobe puppy - all the friendly support from this group.
I know that most questions will probably be answered by Monica directly, and am thinking that I reserve my list until after I get my puppy guide; however, if I did want to start a new thread with some questions, any suggestions as to where to post? I don't see a board or sub-board where that would be appropriate...
counting the days now...

Welcome Korina.....we are Barbara and Kerrie and live in London. We have 2 Dobermans...Dante (f-litter) and Kazi (crazy N-litter) and are also here to help you with any questions/guide you to getting then answered. I will PM you our contact info as you can't have enough contacts. I agree with Lisa about waiting until all of the shots are completed before taking your puppy out of its safe environment. Even walking on the street is a no/no as many animals toilet there...if you are in a house, up and down the driveway, the yard.....just little stuff for now.
What an adventure you are about to embark on....charge your camera or look into getting one as you will be amazed at how fast your puppy will grow! Take lots of pictures as this stage, although sounds long, goes by gast. This breed will change your mind about how you see life now, as everything will look differently as you see it thru your dogs eyes. We said we would not have a second dog....then along came Kazi...her registered name is "Never Say Never" cause that's what we always said...we would never have a second dog...LOL. This breed is amazing, and the people who you will meet are also dober-crazy about their dogs. Start shopping now......while you can....

OMG I was so paranoid with Reyna being outside the house before her first shots... I carried her into the vets, wouldn't let her touch the ground. Carried her into doggie daycare and put her right into the "puppy room", where she was the only puppy until a little devil terrier arrived on scene one day LOL. I asked them every day if they had properly sanitized the puppy area or let any other dogs near it, and when that little terrier arrived, I pretty much grilled the owner about where they had been letting their puppy go. I was the classic overprotective "new mom"... everyone probably thought I was NUTS!
I took Reyna outside, but only to a soccer field y our house where I knew no other dogs went. I don't remember taking her for walks at all until after her shots, only outside to the nearby grassy area on leash for a pee. It makes me cringe when I see excited new parents bringing their new 8-week old puppy to Petsmart, the park, etc... pretty much a daily occurance here in Toronto.
Barb & Kerrie how did you handle it with Dante? Reyna goes to daycare, to the park, etc... were you worried about him bringing bacteria, etc... into the house that wouldn't affect him but could have potentially infected Kazi?

2 questions re: that time before they have all their shots:
- what about socializing? I thought we wanted to socialize the puppy as early as possible? Can you have other humans over to visit??
- also, can you make playdates for your puppies from the same litter during that time period?
Don't worry - i'll be asking many more questions in the weeks to come!! lol
