A little bit of quick oats in some water will help with loose stools too!

Andreina - how long should I cook it for? Is that good to add bulk, kinda like fiber?

Ground chicken and bone I buy from supplier has higher percentage of bone. It causes mild constipation. I add cooked oatmeal as fiber. It works great.
Remember runny stools mean you feed not enough bone or too much organs. Too much bone causes constipation.
Don't worry. Try it first. If your small dogs are doing OK Dobermans should be OK too. My dogs never had runny stools on raw. They got diarrhea only once when I fed kibble in AM and Acana changed their formula.

Nik I just cook mine with hot water and eat them that way. Boil the kettle add a little bit til it's runny. Let it cool and add to the dog food. Scar loves it !!
Or, Monica recommends making a stew kind of thing for puppies we used to do that... cook a couple cups of rice and oats on the stove top and it will last in the fridge for a couple days
And yes it's good if stools are loose. Kind if gross lmao but if I see her poop is too hard I will lay off of the fiber I only really add it if she needs it

Well now . . . I've been following this thread with interest and Quin has been rather picky lately with his food. Much like Andreina, I have tried him with a taste of the Chicken & Burbank which he seems to like but some mornings he still looks in the bowl - looks at me - and seems to say "What the $% is this stuff? ?". Hope it's just a change of season "Thing" but I digress . . . Every morning before breakfast Quin and I schlep out to the local "rail-trail" for our morning 45 min constitutional. He loves to cast back and forth, poke about the ditches, etc and goof off. Winter is good because the snow makes it harder for him to find those forbidden snacks (which he does EAT) . .sticks. So this morning off we go . . beautiful pristine snow, not a wild animal track to be seen anywhere, and we are about 15 minutes into the walk when he dives into the ditch and starts digging into the snow. I figure he's after another damn stick and call him out. Continues to dig furiously - head right in there now - and finally starts to pull out his little prize. From a distance looks like a piece of discarded clothing - maybe from a snowmobiler??? Success - whips it into the air with a florish and ...what the #$$%!!! It's a dead Bugsy and I don't mean Segal. This is one guy that won't be delivering any eggs this Easter! It looks like a kill from last night - a little frozen entree but I'm not taking any chances that it's been there awhile or met it's demise from some disease.. Dog looks at me like "what's the problem?" as I dive in after him - snatch his prize (what's left of it), snap the leash on him while trying to fling the offending object over the fence into the field out of his reach. Whew . . . a close one to be sure as he did have a little blood on his collar. I'm not ready for raw just yet...LOL.

Oh Quin....when they talk of raw, they don't mean "alive"...silly dog, but at least he's thinking of eating raw too.

LOL Susan ...you are not ready for raw yet but Quin has a different opinion My previous Doberman had chronic pancreatitis. He was constantly on diet and I watched him like a hawk. Once while were were hiking he found bloody rabbit skin and eat it in a few seconds. Geezzz... I thought he would not survive it... and he did not even have diarrhea!

Awww, poor Quin. He worked so hard for his wonderful prize and mean old Mum took it away. LOL. Reminds me of Jack's big find during the fall salmon run in the river valley where we hike him. He was off lead and found a huge salmon skeleton that had been picked almost clean by . . . something. A coyote? A hawk? Jack the Brat, of course, responded to our yells of "leave it" by gobbling even faster. Bill managed to get to him, pry open his mouth and grab the tail just as it was disappearing down his throat. It seemed to take forever to haul out four feet of salmon. And Jack was very disappointed in us! Especially because he was hiked on lead for the duration of the run.

Finally got up to speed on this. To answer your question Lisa I tried giving Diesel raw chicken before and he didn't like it. Even tried beef chunks...he would take it in his mouth then realize its a hit off then spit it out. I tried giving him raw chicken 2 weeks ago and he ate it. Feeding raw is definitely something I want to try but I currently do not have room in my freezer. Like Andreina said, when I move out I will probably give it a go. I definitely need to do more research but I'm glad to have read all this info ....that picture of Gino is sooooooooo cute!

LOVE feeding raw omg how did i not do this before!! So Im still on the little dogs - dobes getting switched over in a week or so. With the small dogs I noticed a difference!! My yorkie use to have really stinky breath, now she has none! Here is the biggest change though - with my maltese, she use to have unsightly tear stains (she is white so tear stains are very noticeable with her). I cut away all the previously stained hair and left the new hair to grow back and its bearly coming back. I think it needs some time before it gets out of her system completely but ive noticed a really big difference. Anybody who has been following this thread - I can honestly say its sooooooooooooooo addicting. I still had food left over from the "month" supply and I just keep replenishing it with new stuff. I have such joy and pleasure making it for them its crazy. It encourages me to cook more for myself and husband too because Im enjoying preparing food now. I dont know how to upload pics on here but I'd show what I put in their bowl. I always add a little pumpkin and yogurt and green beans and the meat. I know some say they dont need it but I just like prepping it so much I cant help myself lol The little dogs are loving it. My yorkie who was a little picky in the beginning is now devouring her food and my maltese who attacked her food before is now separating her food and picking out the good stuff first then going back to the other one. So she will take it out of the bowl, drop it and do that a few times until she gets to the good part then go back and eat the other stuff. She is quite messy lol I know this is a forum mainly for dobes but I figured since Ive been asking so many questions, I'd give you an update on how its going. Excited to start the dobes next week!! Meal plan - same as the little ones but chicken for the first 2-3 weeks Cant wait for the smaller poops lol

I told you it's addicting... for dogs and their humans.
I am getting compliments on my dogs shiny coats. Raw may not be a reason for that. It has a genetic component for sure. All Dobereich dogs have great coats.
My dogs don't have gas... yes Lana I forgot what dog fart is LOL. Their stool is smaller and it turns into dust if left unnoticed in the backyard.
Pumpkin and yogurt and green beans are good for dogs. It's a healthy fiber. I add a bit oatmeal to make their stool softer.
Keep us updated and good luck with your Dobermans. If they are doing OK on chicken for few days you may add another protein. No need to wait for 2-3 weeks.

Awesome! Will definitely try this one day. I don't mind cooking stew for Diesel to add in his kibble but it sure as hell cuts down the prep time if all I need to do is thaw meat the night before!

When we first moved to our farm I had let her run around in one of the paddocks (at that time we didn't have barn cats yet) and she managed to catch a live rat! I never thought she would have known what to do with a live animal, but she killed it right away and of course as I told her to leave it, while walking towards her, she responded by trying to gulp it down faster and running away from me every time I managed to get within 3 feet of her ( the little brat ), anyway she managed to eat the whole thing... I think she had a hard time digesting it, but didn't have any diarrhea or anything
