I am going to buy Hurtta winter coats for Gino and Asha. Can you help me to choose the right color? www.eurodogdesigns.com/Warm-Dog-Coat_p_33.htmlThe coats are made in FInland and quite popular in Europe. Katja from Euro Dog Designs became their first distributor in States. The price is $75 US and free shipping to Canada. That's a great deal on high quality winter coats. What do you think?

Lisa, I like the coat. I've been looking for one myself, sadly, the ones they had at Petsmart last winter weren't all that great. I did meet an owner at the dog park who got her dog's coat from some store but its for horses...it fit her dog and I was actually planning on getting that but this one is great. It's stylish too! Red gets my vote I think the color looks awesome on black dobes

Hey you might want to also take a look at Chilly Dogs Great White north coats. they are in Ottawa. I have a couple for Zeus and they stand up awesome are really warm and launder nice and he loves them too. www.chillydogs.ca/index.php/product/index/30 FYI - I've had a few coats over a few dobermans and IMO you don;t want any velcro or little metal button snaps. Note the chilly Dogs use a big solid plastic buckle and same as the one that Lisa shows from what I can see. Velcro comes apart with an active dog running and when you wash them it breaks down and doen't keep it's fastening and aly buttons or little metal snaps comes abpart when the dog is active. I'voted red and it's good for both dogs. If you want another colour blue or black but I prefer black. I have red and green Chilly Dogs for Zeus and he looks best in the red .

I was thinking to buy from Chilly Dogs. Then I found Hurtta. Their coats look very similar to Chilly Dogs. It costs 25% less. If I add the free delivery I save 50% on each coat.
I should support Canadian producers... but it's hard to do it now when CAD is going up.

They look very similar Lisa in the design and how they fasten on the back etc. I just mentioned Chilly Dog because Zeus has 2 and they work great and stand up really well and wash up nice and he loves them. I was able to try a few different sizes and that was great so I know what fits him best with the 1st green and black and then the red and black I just ordered direct the same size. You will have to let us know how your brand works for you and stands up over the winter. here is Zeus with his green one when he was about 15 months old. Attachments:

Here is the red one. I think it looks much better. I wish they had a yellow and black as I think that would look realy good on him being red and tan Attachments:

It looks awesome! I guess Hurtta is bulkier... but it's great quality and very warm. My dogs need it when it drops to -30C Zeus is very handsome in Chilly Dogs coat. I like green and red on him. Chilly Dogs should post his pictures on their web site!

Well we would always buy Dante a black coat as we are partial to that colour on him. He also has 2 winter coats from Chilly Dogs, as we flip them back and forth as they are getting washed, and he looks awesome in his. He also has a rain slicker from them, which I would swear by as it keeps him high and dry in the rain. A very important feature for this breed...lol.
As for Kazi, we like the red colour, but the baby blue is quite feminine too. What size are you going to order for Asha?

I will order 24" for Asha and 26" for Gino. That's the measurement from collar to tail along the back. I will watch Asha for the next 2-3 weeks if she is getting longer and then I will place my order. OMG... she is already 26" tall! Doesn't Chilly dogs coat neck get wet when dogs run through the snow? We don't have much rain here... mostly snow. Dobergirls are playing in Hurtta coats. What do you think about the style? Katja doesn't have fancy colours... only black, red and blue. www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=1514667592340&set=a.1093435501801.16784.1403965197&type=1&theater

It hasn't been a problem that I noticed. The neck part is double fleece. He also has their great white north headpiece that fits over his full head and ears and matches up nicely with the coat for keeping him well covered except his snout and eyes. He looks stupid as hell in it, but when we have a colder winter day I put that on him walking as I worry about his ears being too cold and getting frostbite. I use myself as the measurement. If I can walk in a baseball cap with my ears exposed, he's ok too. if I need a toque he needs the headpiece. If it's much colder then I can't walk him because it starts to bother his feet. Dante has the head muff too. Barb and Kerrie sent me a picture of him wearing it, it's attached! I think your coat looks to be heavier and probably warmer than the Chilly Dog so for your colder weather it makes sense. Attachments:

LOL... Dante looks handsome no matter what! Natural ears work like a hoodie for my dogs We have challenge to keep their long legs warm. Dogs can not run to keep themselves warm wearing boots. What do you do? That's fun to talk about winter coats/boots when it's hot and sunny here

Yup on a day so hot and talking about winter coats, head muffs and boots! I went to walk Zeus today but cut walk eally short as the heat was taking it's toll on both of us. If it's too cold for his feet I just stay home or do multiple short walks over the day and just go around the block. One thing about Grimsby it's not usually that severe cold for more than a day or two and then it warms up.
