So.....does this mean that Kazi can't come over and visit with Jack? Ha! Absolutely not. Jack loves girls, especially girls who are firecrackers so that they'll chase him forever.

I thought maybe after the 2 long stories of the "Neuter Experience"possibly a picture was in order? I snapped the attached picture a few minutes ago. Zeus in all his glory showing off what he DOESN'T HAVE anymore. It's one month today since his neuter and all he has to show is a dried up looking prune at this point Awwwww. Poor Zeus -- although he doesn't seem at all bothered by his lack of . . . uh . . . equipment. Thanks for the posts, Gary. Interesting.

LOL... a slim chance. Kazi is Asha's sister. They don't chase handsome boys... they have them as a new chew toy ;D (Monica's expression that made me laugh)

I have a new picky eater to join the club.... !! :\
I started making the stew for Scarlet a couple of a weeks ago with just the main ingredients, nothing extra added. I started with Turkey as the main meat. She LOVED it, ate every last bite of food. But she had really runny stools. I thought maybe it was the meat? So I changed to beef the next week.... She didn't like the beef at all, would barely touch it. I have done turkey again for this past week and she is now just picking out the turkey and not touching the kibble. I don't let her graze I leave it down for 20 mins and if she doesn't eat she has to wait til the next meal. So usually she has about half her meal for breakfast if that, and usually won't touch lunch. Dinner time is when she is hungry and does manage to finish off her food.
My problem is that she does like the stew, she just rarely has solid stools on it... and if there is no stew in her kibble she won't eat at all unless she is starving. Anyone else have the same issue with runny stools on the stew at the beginning? I'm not sure what in the stew is making her have such loose stools like this continuously, even when I introduced it slowly to her diet?
I ended up stopping the stew about 3 days ago and have been adding a bit of yogurt to the food at every meal. She will take it or leave it depending on her mood and how hungry she is. If I do keep adding yogurt, how much is too much each day? Is it healthy for her system to have the plain yogurt 3x a day??
Although she loves the yogurt I would like to add some type of meat or other nutritional ingredient to her kibble that she will enjoy also. Is there anything else anyone has found adding to the kibble would motivate their dogs to eat it? When it is straight kibble there is no way she will even touch it, it has to have a "flavour" of something... ugh what a princess.

Well welcome to the world of dobermans that are spoiled by their owners. Is it by any chance the volume of food? We have somewhat solved zeus pickyness with his neuter. He's got much more of an appitite and has been eating both his meals every day up till we went away. He had put on 5 lbs in about a month and a half. While we were away he's lost some weight but back home since Saturday and he's eating both meals again and hopefully by the D.O.G event this weekend will have put back on some weight. One thing I've noticed with Zeus regardless of stew or contents of it, if he eats more volume of food then his usual amount he will get the runs. Sometimes because of his pickiness when he would eat a meal and really like it he would be wanting more and we would give it, even almost another meal and he would eat it all. Doing that was pretty well always followed by a round of trots. Some white rice helped and pumpkin added for a few days to get him back solid. What's the ratio of stew to kibble? That too would do it with Zeus. We always tended to put extra stew over kibble. It seems like 60% kibble 40% stew is the max amount of stew for him. He's about 2 cups of kibble and a cup of stew per meal. 70% kibble, 30% stew is what we try and shoot for. No issues here with chicken or beef or lean pork small pieces in his stew. Ours is based mainly on cooked hamburg and chicken broth. Haven't really done much turkey here. Hopefully Monica can add some educated insight over my uneducated dribble

If I remember what Monica says, it's 75% kibble and 25% stew. Don't know about how much yogurt is too much. We give the dogs yogurt ( a large dollup) over their kibble before bed at night...about 1/4 cup or so of kibble. It just gives them something to have in their stomach before bed.
As for meat choices, Dante doesn't like ground beef---Kazi eats everything. But buy the canned Pure pumpkin .... it really does help with their runny poops.
When Dante was a puppy, Kerrie would always make stew for his meals. For the longest time, he ate better than I did!! Now with the second "child", things have changed. She gets nothing extra...lol...oh, unless she makes it for Dante. And then she doesn't even get it then. lol.
If she has loose stools on beef and turkey, try chicken. We even changed kibble to see if that would help Dante. We found that the Acana Grasslands has been the best food for solid stools. Kazi is on a blend of Canidae and Grasslands...they both are actually.

With the pure pumpkin, add a large tablspoon to her morning and night meals. You should see a change in her stools within 12-24 hours.
My advice is go back to the basic and cut out any treats, bones...just her meals and no extras. Try the pumpkin mixed in twice a day, and 75% kibble with 25% stew.

Lol no Gary that was some good info. We are doing 1.5 cups of kibble and a heaping tablespoon (about 1/4 cup) of stew 3x a day.
For example let's say we feed stew and kibble for breakfast and lunch she will have loose stools during the day. But once we cut out the stew at night it will be normal again.
It's not like she has the runs at all, it's just watery.
You mentioned white rice? Could it be that I am using brown rice... With the combination of oats in the stew? Maybe I should try just white rice and turkey. Oh Julian just chimed in, he thinks it may be the egg? Too much protein.

Yes I'll have to go look for the pumpkin thanks!! She loves turkey not fond of beef or chicken. But had runny stools on all kinds of meat. I have just started cutting out treats for about 4 days now. She only gets maybe 10 Zukes minis treats a day for short training. I was also considering switching to the Acana grasslands as I know a lot of the dobes have done well on it, Scarlets still on the canidae. I just wanted to see if switching up the stew recipe or adding pumpkin as you suggested will fix it first. If not we will get on Acana.

Diesel was also the same thing when he was younger. I tend to keep the 75% dry 25% wet ratio...feed him any more than 30% wet gives him the runny stools usually. Do try pumpkin as I've heard many good things about it. I haven't tried it myself since he hasn't had any problems lately.
He looves chicken more than anything but also likes beef and turkey too. Lamb for some reason he is iffy with....it just depends on his mood I guess. I like to add sweet potato in his meal since he really loves it...try it with Scar. As for Yogurt...I think Diesel is lactose LOL no matter how big or small the amount it always give him the runs for some reason.

Gary you may try to feed Zeus more often... too much food may cause loose stools. If you buy pumpkin look for pure canned without any spices. It works like a magic I feed 25% Acana Grasslands in AM and 75% raw meat in PM. My dogs are doing well. Asha may get a bit loose stool after eating kibble (afternoon poo only). I am surprised to hear meat causes runs. I had to deal with Gino's constipations when we switched to raw meat/bones. Raw is easy digestible for dogs and it should not cause runs. Maybe too much supplements?
