Just thought I would share that we are going to take a shot at taking the (canine good neighbour) CGN test... If anyone else was interested in testing, here is the info... We are attending the Richmond Hill test on Feb 11th, at 4 Paws Training (Leslie and Don Mills) @ 12:30pm... But there are various locations across Ontario, (or any Canadian Province.) closer to where you all may live. At the particular test we are going to, the instructor is providing a practice test at 12:30, and then the real test starts around 1:00... I think it would be a great idea to run through the practice test first in order to see what you will be doing exactly. Here is the test description:www.ckc.ca/en/Default.aspx?tabid=91These are available dates and locations:www.ckc.ca/en/portals/0/pdf/PDFEvents/CGN%202012%20Events%20WEB.pdfThe 12 steps of the test can be found here:www.ckc.ca/en/portals/0/pdf/Other/CGN%2012%20Steps.pdfThe CGN title will go on your dogs record with the CKC and is a great accomplishment to have Even for new puppy owners, or dogs just in training, it is something to think about and aim for.

Thanks, Andreina. Don Mills and Leslie is about 15 minutes from us, so we have little excuse not to try this. Couldn't see any info on what kind of collar is required. Do you know? Flat? Fur saver?

Dyanne you can use whichever collar is recognized by the ckc. Under the rules it says what kinds. Prongs not allowed... Slip, flat, martingale all allowed. Hmmm you may just want to ask to examiner when you call to book the test... That's an iffy one not sure if fur savers would be allowed maybe monica knows??

Jack needs little encouragement to create mayhem -- and that Scarlet is definitely an instigator (this meant in the nicest possible way, LOL)). And then add Diesel to the mix . . . Is the examiner ready for the three of them? She may never recover.

So did you sign up? we are looking forward to it... No, we haven't signed up . . . yet. I'm fairly certain that Jack will pass all the exercises, but we'll need to practise some of them. Besides, we're most interested in getting him used to strange situations to help him get over his "trial nerves," and this seems to be a good opportunity.

I do wanna come but as for the times I kinda iffy. I already told Andreina that I have a kids bday party around 3 pm and a dinner party after that. I may cut it too close if I attend this event.

Uh, oh. Bill did some practising yesterday while at training. The friendly stranger is definitely going to be a problem. A new member of the club volunteered to play this role, and Jack was anything but neutral as the guy approached Bill to shake hands. Jack figured that the guy was coming over to say hello to him (because, of course, in Jack's mind, everything is about him) and became very excited. Tail wagging like crazy, bouncing with anticipation.
Still, I plan to call on Monday to sign up. The important thing is to get Jack out there and into situations like this, so no matter what happens, the exercise will be a success.

Whoa. Just checked the website, and it looks as if the test will take place at Richmond Green Ag. Building 2, which is where our winter SchH training sessions are held on Saturday mornings. So we really, really have no excuse not to sign up.
If this is correct, Andreina, note that the site is at Leslie and Elgin Mills, not Don Mills. Just go north on the 404, past 407 and Major Mac to the n. end of Richmond Hill. Take the Elgin Mills exit and go west (left) on Elgin Mills a couple of long blocks, and you'll see the site at the NW corner of Elgin Mills and Leslie. Take the driveway in and park in the lot on the right. The Ag Building is the big, green structure just beyond the old red-brick farmhouse. You can't miss it.

I wouldn't worry too much about jack being excited Wen someone is coming over to say hello. As long as he is under control and doesn't jump you will be fine. You are allowed to talk and touch your dog through most of the exercises I believe. Oh wow! U guys definitely should come if that's where ur sch training is lol I think I should be fine for directions I've googled it. I probably won't be able to miss all the dogs going in either lol. We will be taking the 401 and exiting at Leslie? Is that right and keep going north? Are you going to do the practice test too??
