Asha looks really skinny now... I did not cut on her food and her schedule did not change. She may be in heat in a few weeks. Is that hormones cause weight loss or I should be concerned and run blood tests asap? I was adding kelp to her food. When I noticed weight loss and more frequent urinating (not too frequent to suspect UTI) I stopped doing it. She is always hungry and has great appetite. Why do I see her back bones and all ribs??? What do you think? Her pictures taken today

Wow....does she ever look good. We are restricting Kazi's food intake to 4 cups a day from 5 cups. She needs to lose a number of pounds...she is too large.
Asha looks fantastic Lisa, from my untrained eye.

Maybe pictures don't show how skinny she is... I see her ribs now. She gets more food and still hungry. I guess a test for worms is in order... My husband thinks Mother Nature made a mistake and created Greyhound in Doberman skin LOL. She is F-A-S-T and powerful. I have hard time to control her without a pinch collar. Kazi looks strong and beautiful.... but if she doesn't need 5th cup you may send it to Asha

Lisa, I agree that Asha looks great in the pictures. Very svelte.
And Barb and Kerrie, I hope Kazi doesn't know that she's the "butt" of J-Lo jokes on this forum. LOL.

We have a vet visit tomorrow after work. I will drop her urine tonight. Asha peed in her crate again last night. It's getting worse....poor girl can not hold for 7 hours. Thank you for your support!

Hi all, Sorry for the long silence. But with 3 extra dogs here, dog shows, puppies, and spring clean-up... well, I just don't have much left by the time I get to the computer. If you have a pressing health question, email or call me. Because I'm not always on the forum, and I don't believe that a diagnosis can be made over a forum either. Asking other pet owners about something they may or may not have encountered can very well steer anyone in the wrong direction. Lisa, If peeing has always been a problem for Asha, then I don't think that this has anything to do with her weight loss. If its happening at the same time as the weight loss, then I would think that it is hormone and dietary related (either or, or both). You feed raw, you mentioned several different types of training that you've dabbled in lately, and the weather is changing = more time outside and exercising. Its possible that Asha could be getting too much raw protein and not enough carbs, calories, or fat for her age, activity, and growth. LOL...Yes, she is still growing. Females can get more dirty up to 2 months either side of their heat. The elevated progesterone usually affects the females more after their heat, but they start to have hormonal changes a good 6 weeks prior to their heat. You might notice that Gino is checking Asha out a little more these days as well? Not all dogs are born with the same size bladder or ability to hold their bladder. If Asha has never held it longer then 7 hours, then that might just be her limit. However I wonder if something is waking Asha up before you get up, then she just really has to go. I also think about the protein levels in the diet. High raw meat in the diet gives a hard body with lean muscle and very little fat. But it can also cause skin issues and kidney issues. What is good for Gino might not be OK for Asha. So maybe some adjustments to her feed will help to correct both the problems. Is Asha drinking too much too soon before bed? Perhaps last water should be 2 hours before bed, you should let her outside after 1 hour, then again after 1 hour... only to pee (not play), and just before bedtime. Last consideration is if Asha's bladder is not mature like the rest of her body yet. Just like kids who wet the bed, there are cases when a dog's bladder is slower to mature. This changes for the better when the dog is hormonaly mature.

Well it has been a week since we started to cut 1 cup of food per day from Kazi's diet, and she has lost that 'muffin top' from her rear end. We are happy about our results, but Mommy Monica will see for herself tomorrow.

Her urine test is normal. No infection. Our vet found a little elevated protein in Asha's and Gino's urine. I guess that's result of raw diet.
Monica, she was able to hold for 9-10 hours with no problems. Her peeing accidents started 4 weeks ago. First she could not hold on the weekend. Then I locked her in the crate and she was OK for a week... then she peed in the crate. I don't lock her anymore... that's not a behaviour problem. My vet thinks it may be related to her coming into the heat. She is still skinny. I added more food. Tomorrow I will test her stool for worms.
She is happy and VERY active. We do more excercises. I train her for CKC OB and agility and we play fetch/ball a lot on our walks plus hiking on the weekend. She doesn't look sick at all... but her weight and pee accidents keep me on my toe. I need to find out why it happened. She has been on raw since she was 4 months. We never had any issues with her weight. I add oatmeal and veggies to the raw food. It should not be too high in protein.
Gino is not checking her more often now. He is crazy about her urine all the time... maybe she does it inside to please her brother? LOL

She is flirting with Gino....such a silly girl!
I am glad that her tests are normal. No doubt that this is all due to her coming into heat.....
