The dust hasnt' even settled from this past Sunday's walk, and we are already looking forward to the next one. I am proposing Sunday September 9th....it's 1 week after the long weekend...and allows people to still plan ahead before the "fall" gets us getting busy. The location will be in the Kitchener area... ...please let us know if anyone needs a ride if they don't have transportation as we would like to try to accommodate everyones needs. The approximate time for the walk will be NOON, allowing time for a social before and after the walk, and possibly another bar-b-q. Hope to see you there. Please invite your dog friends also, as this is not a Dobereich-specific walk....all dogs are invited and their family members.

I will chat with some Kitchener friends and see what they come up with for locations. Maybe Marion might have a few ideas?

Sounds like a great idea!
I can think of a few possibilities, but I wonder what the ideal requirements would be.
Tyrion's favourite spot is the Kiwanis dog park because it's large enough for him to do laps. I think it's about 13 acres, and there is a picnic area nearby. It's not a busy dog park but the picnic area is popular on Sundays.
Synder's Flats is a good-sized hiking area, but without any picnic tables or bbq facilities. There is a quarry where dogs swim.
I'll think on it and maybe others will have ideas that would work better. Are there restaurants that allow dogs on the patio?

Well don't worry about the bar-b!-q as we can trailer that and fold up table also. Personally, I would prefer to enjoy as much of the outdoors as possible. When we have a winter walk, then we will keep restaurants nearby. lol.
It was even suggested to take it to another level and add overnight camping also....just a thought, but we have a couple of members that are willing to do this.
Anyone else want to chime in?

Ok so since I live in Kitchener I should probably suggest something so here goes... Huron Natural Area, it's located within the city on 107 acres with coldwater streams, beaver ponds, picnic facilities, nice clean washroom facilities, ample parking and has a variety of trails from 100% paved wheelchair accessable to crushed gravel to hardpacked earth trails for the more adventurous. It is run in partnership with the city and boards of educations, it has boardwalks and all trails are between .8km and 2km. Walking more than one you can put together a pretty good hike. It has a variety of terrain from mostly flat to hilly, certainly nothing tougher than Rattlesnake anyway. Plus it is within walking distance of my house, well it's a plus for me anyway ;D. We spent a couple of hours there this afternoon and dispite it being located in the city, we only met one biker on the forest trail and a handful of people in the carpark and picnic area. Parking is not huge, but since it will be a Sunday parking is available across the street in some of the industrial lots for trailers and larger vehicles. I have walked Juno off leash a few times on remote trails, but it isn't leash free and the bylaw folks do patrol, but infrequently, and on motorbikes so you hear them coming. One major drawback would be that some trails are just hardpacked earth, and since it is based around a coldwater creek system and ponds they can become muddy with rain. It is located on Trillium drive in the Huron industrial park, but don't let that fool you it is nice. And if folks want off leash we can walk/drive to my house I have a fenced yard where dogs could meet. I took a few pictures on the forest trail today with my wife's camera to show and here is the city's webpage: www.kitchener.ca//en/livinginkitchener/HuronNaturalArea.aspstarting with the covered picnic and washroom (super clean, no outhouses) you can see the carpark there too, sorry I thought of picture taking too late, there is a lage open area at the beginning to meet the beaver pond has several boardwalks and photo areas trails are well marked...sort of...my house is just off the bottom left of the board and you have paved trails, crushed gravel trails and hardpacked earth trails to choose from crushed gravel hardpacked earth So there is my suggestion, I haven't been to the places Marion suggested they could be wonderful too. This is just a suggestion let me know what you think Martin

Martin that place looks like a great idea!! I am in for that spot if everyone else is. It reminds me of the trails right by our house as well.

Sounds good to me, and thank you for recommending this park Martin.
Lets plan to meet once again between noon and 12:30, and everyone can choose the trail they wish to hike, or stay together. Heading off for our hike around 1:pm, and finding our way back to the picnic area for the picnic around 2:30 pm.
Please feel free to extend this invitation to your known acquaintances, family, and friends, with or without a Doberman or Dobereich Dobe. We are looking to have a fun time with our dogs and enjoy a Sunday afternoon picnic. So please do not extend this invitation to anyone that you cannot personally vouch for.
If you have not been on a Dobereich walk before. This is a casual meet-up for people who want to enjoy socializing their dogs with others. It is not a commercial opportunity, we are not selling or promoting anything other then a healthy pet and owner relationship.
This group is not affiliated or associated directly with any other dog/dobe group, including the Dobermans Owners group. Our walks are not about membership, its about enjoying pet ownership. So everyone is welcome, there's no conflict in joining our walk while being a member of another Doberman meet group.
Our last BBQ was at Rattlesnake point in Milton and turned out to be a very enjoyable day among fellow dog lovers. There was plenty of food and the dogs had a blast playing and walking the trails.
I hope to see some new and old faces, and I surely do miss seeing some of my Dobereich pups.

OK, so I know that I enjoyed the pot luck picnic last time. Lets get planning for this time around. Sept 6th we'll add the # of participants in the walk so that we know how much food to make. Please write in and tell us how many people and dogs will be coming in your party, and what food or beverage you will be able to share with the group. Some people might be allergic to nuts, so be sure to label your food if it is prepared with nuts or by-products of nuts. You know, if anyone has a great recipe for walnut or pecan butter tarts or something like that... ha-ha!

Looks like a great spot with a variety of trails. Thanks for the photos Martin. Quin loves walks through the woods so please count the 2 of us "in".
I can bring cutlery, condiments etc depending on what the BBQ menu is. As to butter tarts?? Well Monica, it just so happens I have a "source" for some pretty good ones so I'm happy to supply a variety for you sweet tooths. . .lol.

Juno and company: myself, Stephanie and Sebastian will be attending and we can bring pasta salad, and a case of water. We look forward to seeing everyone! I've also invited a friend of ours with a (slightly) overweight dobe. Her name is Shirley and her dog is Rosie.
