I can't believe your doby will go in the water. Atlas will go into water about 2 inches deep, any more and he is running to get back out. We tried to get him into deeper water once and the second my husband let go he sank like a pile of stones. we got him out right away but got the dirtiest looks from him for a while after that. lol.

Both of our dogs needed a little "coaxing" to get into the water also....Dante was playing with another dog who loved the water, and eventually forgot where he was until he was literally swimming himself--then it was like "what"?? And he went in less causiously after that, and now he loves the water and is a great swimmer. Kazi took quite a bit longer than Dante. She would let Dante retrieve the toy, then while standing in ankle high water take it from him when he brought it back and then she would turn around and bring it out of the water -- as if she did all the work herself! But even slower than Dante, she became comfortable with water, and now she too runs into it and loves it. She is still learning how to be a better swimmer, but all it takes them is practice to get better. Don't give up on Atlas....but a second dog helps the transition is what I'm saying.
