Poor Scarlet.....she is going to be "harrassed" by our boys.
It sounds like there won't be any play time for her except with Kazi...LOL

If you catch the first day correctly, then you're usually OK to let your female go to the park for 7 days. Fertile period a female's heat cycle varies between female's, even between heat cycles. But the average female will become receptive to a male between 9-18 days from the first day of their heat.
Again, you have to watch your female for readiness, they can refuse a male in the morning, accept them 4 hours later. The worst is when an owner took such good precaution during the first couple weeks, just to be fooled into an unauthorized breeding at the end. LOL.
I have known many females who act like they're finished their receptive stage of heat, that turned around and stood for a breeding a few days later. I've had more then one female breed as late as day 18-20. That's why I always recommend waiting a full month before taking them to the park.

Oh good to know Monica!! Porscha just went through her first heat a 1.5 weeks before Christmas...thats when Zeus became her BEST FRIEND lol He is fixed though, at a very young age. We didnt think he would try anything with her because he was 5 months when he was nipped and never humped before. So it was pretty funny to see him try it with her and watch her just stand there. But I figured since he stopped doing it and she didnt let him do it anymore that it was over which was about the third week into her cycle then I took her to the park last saturday for the first time since her hear started. Thankfully no males were interested in her in that way so i guess she was over it but Im happy to know this now for the future. I do not want puppies! lol

I wonder how all of the puppies/dogs are doing this week after their first class this past Sunday? I know that everyone will be working hard this week to grasp what they learned in class, cause there's a whole lot of new stuff that they'll be learning this coming Sunday.

I would like all of the level 1 owners to feel free to post on the obedience thread instead of using the level 1 thread.
As I stated on that thread, congratulations must go out to all of the owners and their dogs for "getting serious" about training with their dogs. Although each person came to training looking for something different, each has demonstrated a true committment to their dog. This past Sunday, both groups were praised on the work that they did with their dogs thru the week at home, as it showed on Sunday as their dogs proudly displayed the "bond" each is starting to have with their owners. Well done to each of you, and I know that we are all looking forward to seeing the growth.

I agree Barb, I could see everyone was learning very quickly. Usually the second week is still quite chaotic with handlers and dogs still getting the hang of things. Week 3 turns up the most evident transformation. But these last two classes are already showing good promise. Next class will be really interesting and fun for the owners as they learn 4 new elements in training.

Hope everyone had a good week with their dogs....it's been hard to be outside this week as the rains have been pounding us Monday-Wednesday, and at least now the snow is on the ground, and the dogs can come back outside to play and walk.
I just want to remind the level 1 people to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to their class to allow their dogs to "bathroom", and stretch their legs and "attempt" to unleash some of the anxiety in them before class. As there are 3 different classes each Sunday, please try to arrive on time....with the weather also, allow for extra time travelling, and if class has to be cancelled, watch your emails or the forum as Monica will post late Saturday if there any changes or cancellations.

It's a nice morning....been up for a couple of hours already....( ) Can't explain why though. The London group should have no problems driving to Fergus today for training. What a change in weather 12 hours can have. The winds appear to have died down, and lets hope for a safe drive for everyone today. I'm suggesting for those from London who want to drive together today to text or call me .... there's always safety in numbers.

WOW...what a great day again in all levels of obedience training. I hope that the level 1 owners feel the progress they've been making as much as we can see the progress. Congrats again to all as their efforts are really coming forward. The time they are spending at home working with their dogs is truly showing each Sunday.....I am so impressed with the time and effort that is being spent with their dogs...CONGRATULATIONS to everyone. I know that for all of us, no matter what level you are in, the more time you put into working with the dogs, the more results you are going to see ( and others see as well ). You have all been an inspiration for me to work more with Kazi ( and Dante )....I am so proud of all of you!

Congrats to the level 1 owners I hear you are all doing well... Whew what a class today level 2 huh? As Julian has been handling Scarlet for majority of the sessions I got a bit of a workout today instead lol.... I missed handling her in class actually, I find it to be a great time working with her in a group environment. I can tell our hard work is paying off... and now I am more motivated to train this week as we prepare for our test! My goal is to walk her everyday with the leash around my waist trying to not use hands! Ahhhh, as soon as your hands are restricted you realize how much you rely on the corrections. Its so true! Going to work more on verbal and body language this week. Happy training everyone!!! haha ;D
