Diesel can hold his pee...there are times though when he'll wake me up at 3-5am wanting to pee outside. He'll keep whining until I get up lol

Hmm maybe it is a female thing - everyones females seem to be a bit trickier with pees, some more than others. Zeus has messed his crate twice since we had him and it was never pee, always stool because of either switch in food or a bug he picked up. He was always able to hold it in the crate. Naturally he made some accidents in the house while he was a pup but over all he has been easy as pie in the potty-training department! Porscha is the complete flip side. After lunch today I left them both in the basement (not crating her) and she peed twice. Grrr!!! and her crate was wet again from being in there for 5 hrs before i let her out. I cant figure out if its because she gets excited right as we are letting her out, or if she is peeing in her sleep. Either way I'm taking out the blankets tonight to see what happens in the morning.

I need to clarify... Asha doesn't mess in the crate. My royalty pees everywhere! Now I am training her on peeing pads to safe our hardwood floor.
She is OK after her heat for 2 months and then she is a peeing princess again. Her heat is coming. I don't expect any improvement yet.
Andreina did you notice any changes before the heat?

Is she maybe peeing because of some other reason like you leaving her? does she seem agitated when you leave her alone or is she fairly ok in her crate and on her own..... I know with Scarlet, I had fears she was developing separation anxiety when she was a pup as i fussed over everything lol... But, I would leave her in the crate for 5 minutes, and it would be a mess! Just a thought??

No changes in bathroom schedules.... Just personality changes, She was really hormonal and sensitive for a couple weeks... Now that she is in heat, all she wants to do is laze around, and has been very quiet... This is how she has been through each heat cycle though so nothing new on this end!

When Kazi was a puppy and came home, we had extensive renovations going on at our house....so we were living in the recreation room in the basement. We set up an area for Kazi with her bed, a pee area, food area and enclosed it in. We also put down pee pads for her designated pee area....yikes. After that time which was 2-3 months, when we took control of the home again, it was very difficult to re-train her NOT to pee on a different surface. I.E., when she stepped off of hardwood, or the stone floors onto an area carpet, she took it for a pee pad. It was very frustrating to re-educate her.
So far this week, Kazi has woken each night thru the night to go outside. This morning Dante wanted to go outside, and of course he awakens Kazi, who decides she may as well go too. It's a 15 minute break if both dogs have to go outside as they go seperately at that time of the morning, but they are out and back in. I know your sleep is important, but so is your sanity....

Interesing... Asha is coming into heat in a few weeks or less. She is peeing more. I wonder if Kazi's hormons are still running wild if she has the night pee walks now. Scarlet is always in heat a few weeks before Asha. My girl is calm and sensitive when she is in heat too. She is feminine and gentle. Love those moments ... and she doesn't have pee accidents after for a month or two.

I just worry about "teaching" Asha to pee in the house on a pee bed...it could become a bad habit that will be difficult to break. It was agony getting Kazi to stop releasing herself on anything that felt different from hardwood flooring. Even tonight, we decided to pull up the dogs water by 7pm.. I will let you know tomorrow how they faired tonight...

Barb it's nice of you to worry about Asha That's a tough task to make Asha peeing on the pad. No success so far.... Asha never pees inside at daytime. My dogs are not allowed in the carpet area at night. There is no risk she will pee on carpet. I know it would be better if I let her out but my sleep is tender... If I get up I have hard time to go back to sleep....and my job demands a clear mind.

Andreina - she is really good in her crate. She use to get separation anxiety but she gor over it quick when she realized the world wasnt gon a end. We crate them and put them in another room as puppies (all 4 of them) so it taught them not to freak out when we leave. She is now comfy, goes in when i say bedtime, and doesnt make a sound until the morning. I thought it may be too but i think she really likes it in there because if we need a time out (mostly for my sanity lol) i will place her in there for a little bit and she is completely fine with it....zeus on the other hand was a NIGHTMARE haha separation anxiety 101....he is much better since he was about 2yrs old.
As for peeing on a pee pad - i dont know who ever thought to invent that. Worst invention ever lol !!! Its nearly impossble to break them of the habit. I have one dog that was trained on the pee pad before we got her and i STILL cant break her of it. When we are home she lets us know she has to go out but if we leave her to roam the house for a few hrs while we are out there is a guarantee that there wil be a little pee stain oon one of the little carpets in the house. I have given up! Thankfully my whole house is tile or hardwood so she only goes on the little carpets on the tile. Its definitely a challenge to break them of it so i never got the other dogs use to it. Outside in the freezing cold they go! Even as pups lol

Hmmmm.. a pee pad is a bad idea then. I will stop teaching her to pee on the pad.. but now I have a dilemma how to safe my hardwood without getting up in the middle of night. Any ideas?

Can she sleep in the crate at night? And as Monica suggested with porscha, maybe remove blankets? Does she get the run of the house at night? I agree with the pee pads, It's hard to untrain them from peeing inside once you introduce pee pads. I would try her in the crate.

I was locking her in the crate. She peed there. I tried to change or remove blankets. She can not hold for more that 6 hours no matter what I do. I felt really sorry to see her sleeping next to her urine. Now she gets the run in kitchen and family room (no carpet area). Unfortunately we have laminated floor in the kitchen (such a bad idea!). She is not allowed to pee there and she doesn't.

So maybe try it a few nights in a row

I can only speak for Kazi....most nights she has to be let out in the middle of the night. I can't deal with pee on hardwood, or anywhere...so when Kazi gets out of bed and walks to the stairs and starts to descend them, one of us gets up and goes and lets her out. The nice thing about the middle of the night is that she is quick...outside and then inside and right back into her bed. She doesn't dilly-dally...she doesn't try to play, or get attention. It's only longer when the second dog wants to go outside also, as we won't let them go out at that time of night together.
Lisa, after you and your husband have a very wonderful, relaxing vacation in the hot sun, I think you should try letting her out in the middle of the night. The only time we have seen Kazi hold her pee for 8 hours is when it is a downpour outside and she doesn't want to get wet. Otherwise, 6 hours or so is her limit also.
