Does anyone know of an agility training centre in Ontario(reasonable driving distance from Mississauga) that doesn't demand yearly vaccinations? I want to get Porscha into agility but most require yearly vaccinations and I don't want to over vaccinate her....now I'm stuck

You should check into exactly what it is that they want......on the 3 year vacination, it isn't necessary. Ask them if it's enough that you produce their levels as taken from a vet thru blood samples?

The only vaccine thats required annually is Bordetella (kennel cough). Rabies is given as a pup, booster after a year, then every 3 years as identified on the label. Although we know that DAP2/DHPP vaccines are good for several years, they're only labeled as an annual because it contains parainfluenza vaccine, which requires an annual booster.
The only DAP2 vaccine that is labeled good for 3 years is the continuum by Intervet. So try to get this vaccine, and then bring in the material from their website that indicates that their vaccine is effective for 3 years. But it very well could be that the trainers are looking for the Bordetella. BTW, if you do go with the continuum vaccine, remember to get the intranasal Bordetella as opposed to the IM injectible, because the intranasal contains the parainfluenza vaccine that was removed from the 3 year continuum.

Jeez, vaccines confuse me. Jack had a bordatella vaccine this fall, and for the first time, it was injected not sprayed up his nose. He will be four in March, so isn't due for a rabies booster until this spring (or maybe it's the fall -- not sure and will have to check). Our vet is very conscientious, but at the time, she mentioned nothing about the parainfluenza vaccine. Is this something I should ask to have clarified when he goes in for his next round of shots -- to make sure he is covered for parainfluenza?

Yes Dyanne, you can also check online to see if the vaccine you got has the parainfluenza. Last I knew the injection didn't have it, just the kennel cough. Perhaps its changed. You need to remind the vet that your dog needs it, because they will assume that you have given the annual vaccine along with the masses.

Thanks for the info.
I was thinking about doing blood test for levels and seeing if that would be enough - first I would ask instead of just spending the money on it.
Im also going to check into what was given to her. I should pull out her records to see if I can find anything on there.
Speaking of Bordatella (Kennel Cough) how bad is this for dogs? Zeus and Kiwi (my yorkie) got it and they were over it in a week. The vet didnt even really recommend anything except waiting it out - that it goes away on its own....and it did

The vet didnt even really recommend anything except waiting it out - that it goes away on its own....and it did I think it may depend on the dog and the severity of the infection. I'm nervous of bordatella because of the experience of a friend's Rottie. When she was eight, she went walkabout and was picked up by the local animal control. This was in a rural area, so she was incarcerated miles away in the Midland pound, which was closed on weekends. This meant that our friends were unable to retrieve her till the Monday, by which time she had picked up a severe case of kennel cough. Her age probably had something to do with how hard it hit her. With veterinary care, she did get better -- but she never really recovered. She just wasn't ever the same again, and I'm convinced that the bout of kennel cough was the beginning of the end for her.
