I don't think Tuula had a hard time to digest a rat LOL
Raw meat digestive cycle is only 7 hours... kibble takes much longer.

Curious (and sorry if these questions have already been asked and answered). Where are the dogs when they're eating the raw stuff such as chicken feet? Do you put it in their bowls? How do you deal with the mess? Or is there mess?
I'll never be accused of being a clean freak (LOL), but when Jack gets a knuckle bone, he wants to carry it everywhere. We give it to him in the yard, but we have to block him off outside to prevent his carrying it into the house. He would love to sneak it upstairs to his crate, where he can gnaw in comfort.

Whenever Scar has raw food treats we put a blanket down and she lies on that. She loves chicken feet, rabbit ears, cow hooves, and whatever else she can get a hold of. Lol.

Well this was their 1st ever time eating "real" raw food. Kerrie had Kazi's outside on the patio, and Dante got his in the dog's room. Dante was pretty cute though.....he wanted to run around the house and find a spot to "bury it"...YUCK! Haha...so she brought him to the dog's breezeway area, and held onto it until he "got the gist" of what he was supposed to do with it. YUCK AGAIN!!

My dogs chew raw meaty bones (beef/bison neck, ox-tails, chicken/duck feet, heads, necks) on the towel in their crates or outside on the deck or the grass. They are trained not to move around until they finish. Recreational bones (knuckle or marrow) are different. They are game bones (not much food). I give it to my dogs when they are outside only.
Chicken feet or heads are not bloody. They don't make much mess. Also it takes a minute to finish it. Most bones don't land on the floor at all.

Too true Lisa. I watched them eat their chicken feet tonight. Yes, we still have enough left over to last until early last week. They were frozen, so there was little mess, but it was a little disturbing listening to the crunching of the bones. lol

No real changes yet, if there will be any,. hard to think that 1 chicken foot is going to change anything. Kazi practically gulped 1 1/2 inches of the foot after she tore the "feet" off and ate them. She is a very fast eater, so she just watched Dante as he savoured his "foot".

While doing an annual health exam our vet noticed GIno chipped his premoler. That's not good news. The tooth is not infected at the moment but it may in the future.
Learn from my mistakes and don't feed your dogs hard bones. Only soft RMB. I need to remove bison neck bones from doggy menu... sigh... they love those bones so much.
Asha's teeth are fine.

That sucks about Gino's tooth and we hope it doesn't turn into a problem for him.

Cheyenne, Check if you have any local suppliers. I know places around here like Global pets and small pet food stores sell raw but It tends to be a bit pricier. See If you have any type of cheap butcher places. We have a great asian market here and there is tons of selection at small costs.
