My dobe Indi had the most bizarre reaction when visiting our vet this week.
She was taken in for a case of diarrhea that lasted more than 48hrs to get checked out.
When the vet reached down to touch her belly, she let out a loud scream! We tried it with me in and out of the room, same reaction!
When I touch her belly, of course...she allows me. So was definitely not in any pain!
The same thing happened when we took her to get her nails trimmed once..she let out a very loud scream when she was touched by the groomer.
Weird because strangers have petted her and she is generally a very friendly dobe. My vet is also friendly.
She has seen this same vet many times when growing up as a puppy with no reaction of this kind previously.
Why would my Indi behave like this?
What could the cause be?
How do I fix it!!!

Ask other people to touch her belly.... she needs more socializing with people touching her.
Asha doesn't like to be touched but she doesn't scream. She allows me to do everything I want with her body (checking her teeth, taking temperature, etc) but if our vet does it she is not comfortable. Sometimes I ask strangers to touch her... Maybe Monica has a better idea.

How old is she? My Porscha use to scream too as if we were skinning her if i tried to groom her or trim the hair around her ears. She grew out of it eventually. I hope Indi does too. Maybe its something more. Wish i could offer you some advise.

Did I answer this on FB? Anyhow, if not. Its submission, the screaming a female does when they're unsure of what's going to happen to them while at a heightened state. Its like a high pitched squealy bark, and definitely a sign that she is afraid or unsure... .which could have been coupled with the fact that she did have abdominal discomfort. But if you couple this indecent with the one with the groomer, then I'd say it was a "OMG what are you doing touching me there" scream. As for her not reacting to strangers. How many actually get that up close and personal with her? I'm sure none, because that would just be weird...lol.

That makes sense Monica... Thanks for the insight, Tuula has screamed a couple times when she's gotten unwanted attention from off leash dogs that just come barrelling at her and dont let up... I wonder do you think that the screaming tends to make dogs(the ones who are giving the unwanted attention) more aggressive in a situation like this?
PS, sorry to get off topic
