Hi all.. Just wondering for those who have taken their TT and CGN.. how old was your dog? That's something I would like to strive for with Mana.
I hope all is well with Dobereich-world.. I am one of those who have not been here in a while but I am always a lurker on our FaceBook page (I know, I know, Monica!)
Talk soon, Arlene & Mana

Hi Arlene! We did scar's CGN when she was just under a year old. As long as your dog knows basic commands you will pass it's very easy. Just a test to see if they are well mannered. TT I believe they have to be a certain age, i'm not sure.... Monica would know that. The TT is something where the markers are looking just for how your dog reacts to different situations. So you are not allowed to communicate or talk with them, you lead them through the course and they are judged on how they react to things.. IE: A crowd of people closing them in a circle, a gunshot noise, coins in a popcan shaking, an umbrella being popped open. you can google the different tests and see what the expectations are exactly!

I think it depends on the dog. Scarlet and Jack did their CGN at the same session, but Jack was nearly three years old at the time. He would not have passed when he was Scarlet’s age because he was (and still is) a very . . . ahem . . . “enthusiastic” young man. In the exercises that involved meeting people and dogs, Mr. Friendly Smiley Boy would have had a very hard time containing this enthusiasm. Andreina had a video cam at the test. If you’re interested, you can watch both Jack and Scarlet perform the test — and this may help you decide whether Mana is ready. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m7EQPnD6cMwww.youtube.com/watch?v=oWE7scyga3w

Kazi was 1 1/2 years old, and Dante was 3 1/2 years old when they got their TT title. As Diane said, each dog is different. Watch the video and gauge how you think Mana will do...check with Monica as to when the next test is, and if you feel like you're both ready to do it, then sign up to go....and post it as that you can have a cheering section.

For the TT the dogs must be 12 months old. Its recommended for a working dog to be 18 months, but some are ready by a year. Kaia's not ready, she just wouldn't understand why anyone would pose a threat to her. So still too much the baby to go out to the end of the lead and protect. Charlie on the other hand was 15 months old and she was the star of the day. She aced her TT.
The objective for the TT is to test the dog's nerve fiber. The dog is graded on their reaction and recovery to things that could happen in the real world, but that are a little out of the ordinary. No obedience is allowed, its all about the dog's choices. So when they hear the gunshots, the examiner is looking to see if the dogs is curious, but stands it ground. They have the entire 6 foot lead to decide to bolt, hide behind their owner, etc. Which of course would be an obvious fail.
The CGN requires some obedience, not a lot. But as the name suggests, the examiner is looking for good citizens. So the things that are added to this test involve touch, basic grooming, a quick stay, go through a door mannerly (without forging ahead), and the dog is to heel past another dog without reacting. There's more to each test of course, this is just to outline some of the differences between the TT and CGN.
