Ian: Since you have been taking a lot of pictures throughout the previous meetups ... I was wondering whether you would like to make a calendar for anyone who would want one? I will need 7 for sure.
Just a thought?

Hey Eric... this was something that Gary and I had kicked around at the last meeting. Sort of a fun, not for profit thing, that owners could share in. Another idea was to feature dogs in the months that they were born.
As for pictures, I'm sure I have a bunch and could put that together... but not sure if I have enough calendar worthy shots of everyone's dog, and I certainly don't want anyone to feel left out.
Let me kick this around, and chat with Gary a little more about it and see what I can come up with.

I don't want to copy Doberman Talk, but I think the best idea is for everyone to start submitting their photos to use.

We need to sort out some sort of theme for each month as well..... I will think of a list of monthly themes if everyone doesn't mind? and then post my ideas??
Another thought, raise the cost of the calendars a little above the original cost in order to donate some money to a D.O.G fund to support upcoming meets.... Refreshments, etc...

Another thought, raise the cost of the calendars a little above the original cost in order to donate some money to a D.O.G fund to support upcoming meets.... Refreshments, etc... The topic of funding meets has come up before. Not sure that its something that everyone (who would buy a calendar) needs to fund for the few people who get together at meets. I have Dobereich's clients almost all over the World. Not everyone is able to be at meets, so it seems a little unfair to me to ask others to support it. Everyone could just bring their own refreshments, or we organized things in such a way that each person brings something to pitch in for the group. Then we keep the work in the community and share it equally. We can work on that idea as a group for sure, bring it into the DOG thread. A Dobereich calendar is something I have wanted to do for a few years now. However I wanted to use my client's dogs, and until this year I didn't have the venue to solicit such an idea and get it to everyone. Since this has come up this year and you all seem to want this as well, I will grab the reins on and set the wheels in motion to make our first Dobereich calendar for 2012. There isn't a lot of time left, so I'd appreciate everyone's feedback, right down to hunting out the best source for printing, etc. Cause anyone who's ever made a photo calendar before knows that the costs are pretty dear. The members who pre-pay will help to get the calendar published, and they will pay less. Whatever calendars that are left can be used in various places among Dobereich to help boost whatever cause. For example, if the core members who attend DOG meets wanted to purchase extra calendars and sell them to raise money for a bigger meet, refreshments, etc. This would be a way that those members work to boost their own cause. This will be with my help of course, and I can decide to do something else for other members who live out of province. Or even better yet, I can give the option to anyone who is buying the calendar to support whatever cause they prefer. For example, cost of calendar includes a $5 donation to the Cleo fund, or the D.O.G fund, etc? Each person decides what cause they wish to support, the money goes to each fund. There isn't any profit directly from the calendars themselves. When I allow the CKC to use my pups for their book I don't get paid. The perk is having your dog published over a vast number of others. So this will be the aim of the photo competition. the winner get's published, dog and owner's name too, etc. Photos will have to be good quality, I will have to get the required specs by the publisher. However my niece is a graphic designer and I am sure she can put this together so that its print ready. Unless Ian is into that as well and would like to donate some of his time for the cause? As for themes, we can take it to a vote, and I'd like to hear back from you as well with ideas for more themes. Three ideas that I've considered are; 1 - Seasonal, standard idea, photos appropriate to the time of year, spring, summer, fall, winter. 2 - Age related. Jan would be new puppy, continue each month at various stages of life, till Dec is a senior dog. LOL, I think I would have Jan and December's pics...lol. 3 - Dobes from around the World. (or at least as many places as I have them around the World, or from people who travel with their Dobereich Dobes). There's nothing saying that we can't do a different theme each year, because once we get the first calendar started, we will have a foundation to build on. So lets make this official. I will set up a new thread asking for photos and link this to my website where it will get more traffic. Get your cameras ready, or at least start going through your pics for some really great shots you might have already.

Can I submit a picture of my two babies? Gino is not from Dobereich family.
You may give me a hint what picture you like from my 2012 calendar... but it should not be Gino alone.

I'm shopping for printers right now. Can I submit a picture of my two babies? Gino is not from Dobereich family. So I guess you have to retake that photos with Asha and Gino together now. No pressure at all.

I was more than willing to try and help out and set this up to have it printed based on a "who wants one" kind of deal and do a one time order for it... but it sounds like you want to get more involved and order tons of calendars for distribution now. Seeing as your niece is a graphic designer... probably best to let her run with it... "too many chefs (graphic designers) spoil the sauce (creative license and timing). I can certainly contribute some photos, of my kids, and other's that have been taken at the meets that I have so far, if so desired. If someone has seen a shot of their pup that would like to be included in this for consideration, just let me know.

But if you have ideas of a calendar for your own business, perhaps sell a DOG calendar to those members within the meets, etc... don't let a Dobereich calendar stop you! What I would like to do is include everyone, not just one group. I'm thinking that with the short timing available that I might just hire a print house to do the calendars. What I would offer you is the option to do the actual print yourself, if you have that type of equipment. I'm not even sure that my niece would be interested in doing it. However with the print house calendars I'd just have to give them the info and they will set it all up. Then I don't need to hire anyone, and that just might be easiest? I'm all ears Ian and open to suggestions.

Mon... all I was going to do was set it up to be run at Costco. You design what pics you want for the 12 months and submit it and they print them up for you. It may be cheaper to get them done at a print house though, based on quantity that you're thinking about.\
I wasn't thinking about doing any of this for my business, but only as a thing for members of the D.O.G. that were interested as some had expressed interest in it at DOG4. Nothing that I have done, or offered to do with regards to that group was to benefit me, my company, or make profit... if anything only to cover costs incurred for providing anything.
I think you're on the right track if you're producing a Dobereich Calendar to have it mass produced at a printer, get a hundred or so made, which makes it way cheaper. By the time it would have been done at Costco it was looking to be around $20 each.

I think the idea is wonderful. What about the idea of "collage" photos for a month or two, as I'm sure everyone will want their "kids" to be part of the calendar...not to say there are more years to come When would we start to submit our photo(s), I'm sure we all have our favorites.
