Hi Everyone,
Dr. Lynn O'Sullivan has not returned to work yet at the UOG and they currently still do not have a cardiologist on site. When Lynn comes back she will deal with DCM and emergency cases first, then rechecks from previous study cases. It could be as much as a year before they start to accept new patients into the study, and that is as long as they keep it going.
Do to this long lull and uncertainty for our future at the UOG, I have decided to invest in a cardio holter for Dobereich clients. Its highly cost effective, and the wait time is far less then going through other Doberman study groups.
This is a 24 hour event recorder that will detect any irregularities in your dog's heart activity. It does not detect size, but will detect arrhythmia, PVC, and other electrical abnormalities related to heart disease, which can save/prolong your dog's life when detected early.
The holter results are read by a licensed technician and a report is sent back to you with any findings that you can share with your veterinarian.
In some cases a 24 holter is required to register a clear cardio exam with OFA. Another benefit of being a part of this program.
There have been 3 cases in the past couple years alone where a vet refused to do a surgery on a Dobe because they were so paranoid that they thought they heard arrhythmias that weren't there. One of our own on this forum was rushed directly to UOG by referral, was scared out of their minds, paid over $700, just to find out that their 1 year old girl had a perfectly normal heart.
Having a holter done annually, or biennially in conjunction with the UOG study gives peace of mind and can stop that sort of nonsense from happening to you.
I am accepting bookings now, a $100 pre-payment is required for the first exam, the cost will be $60 for subsequent tests. This will include a *basic reading of the 24 hour event record by a licensed technician.
*complex reports may have additional fees.
*includes one test kit only, additional kits extra.
Booking is based on a first come first serve basis, so get your Dobie booked today!
to book, send your deposit by email money transfer to monica@dobereich.com
in the subject line write your dog's call name and date of birth.
You will get a notification of where you are on the booking list, and an approx date that the holter will be mailed to you. I haven't received a quote for postage, but assume it will be around $10 for next day insured. All recorders will be sent signature required. It might be possible to send the holter to one location where several owners can work together to save on shipping time and costs.
