www.dogsincanada.com/heartworm-in-canada These numbers aren't really that worrisome in my opinion, especially considering the # of dogs that contracted heart worm while on preventives. I find that a little disappointing to be honest. Then there are a great # of dogs that were imported with heart worm. Manitoba has a huge mosquito population, I was surprised at the low numbers for that region, but see the increase as being significant.

Well one of the joys of living in Grimsby and in town not the country, is we really don't have many mosquitoes around our place. Zeus has been tested for heartworm and he's got preventive meds.

I really like the way this article explains the disease and life cycle. Basically the only heart worm cases my vets practice sees is the dogs that have come from down south. www.thewholedog.org/heartworm.html

The vet told me to take heartworms preventive medication only if we travel with our dogs. I assume there are no local cases.

Thanks, Monica. That's interesting.
Lucky you, Gary. At our place in Toronto, this has been the worst summer ever for mosquitoes. And at training, north of the city, the mozzies are deadly once dusk falls. The car is wide open throughout the session, of course, so by the time we head home, they're everywhere. We drive with the windows wide open, the A/C on full blast, and the passenger swatting wildly. Can't imagine what people think is going on in our car!

Oh you have to ask Barb x Kerrie about the night they were up here and left the windows down in the SUV....lol.
