Gary... shutter priority gives you the ability to capture speed, aperture priority controls how much light gets into the camera.
So you want a fast shutter speed in order to "freeze" Zeus in motion, while panning with him and taking the shot. This will in turn make the background appear blurry and moving, while the subject is in constant focus. it's tricky to do, but you'll get the hang of it I'm sure.
...and do tell me where this radar gun will be set up and we'll have to figure out how to get Magnum to run in a straight line without wanting to run after another dog... or squirrel etc...
actually, if I had Diamond get a head start on him, then you'd really see him bolt to catch up to her. She's a speedy little girl, but even with a good lead, he mows her down pretty quick.

Ian I can radar your dogs anywhere if you have a place they can run at speed. The issue i see so far with all the dogs is you need the right motivator to gewt them to kick it into their higher speed potential over just running because they can.
I know when Zeus went 24 MPH and he did it multiple times and held it too. It was at Cayuga Dragway in the winter and in snow with his coat on! So ifigured on grass no coat he will fly, BUT he needs the right motivator and since that 24 MPH day he's not had it.
When we started going for free runs at the track he would really run far and his recall wasn't great so how I motivated him was to turn around and walk fast towards the truck. He would come flying worried he was being left behind.
Reyna's motivation was a chuck it ball thrower and orange road hockey balls. Ahe is amazing how fast she accellerates!! Definately a litte drag racers as in 20-30 feet she's in the 20 MPH range! I think she may be the fastest given the right motivator, but maybe given more distance she backs down into a cruise mode. She needs another fair shot on the gun for sure.
Monica had like 4-5 dogs try their hand at the radar gun, but none of them really had the right motivator to kick it beyond a normal running speed. Cajun was 24 MPH and the fastest of Monica's dogs that took a shot. I remember seeing her at the UKC Lure Coursing event two different times and she can really fly. For sure she can go faster than the 24 MPH she was clocked at but she needs the right motivator!
So if you have a decent spot let me know and I'll stop by with the radar gun and see what happens. Don't bring a knife to a gun fight though.......practice with Di and Magnum and figure out the best motivation and how to make them fly! Use that when the radar gun comes out and show us all what a male can do!

We have a new Dobereich land-speed record today... after tearing around with Scarlet for about 10 minutes, Reyna (aka 'Dobereich's Flo Jo' haha!) was officially clocked in at 26mph! I think she can go faster... next week we'll clock her right off the bat BEFORE Scarlet gets to her haha! AND hopefully it's not raining like it was today. With all conditions ideal, I'll bet she's a solid 30mph at least. She's svelt and muscular... quite the little sprinter & built for speed! Bring it on Cajun! ;D

Yesterday Gary took some shots of Scarlet and sent them over to me! (They are awesome by the way Gary!! Thanks.) This is the shot he pointed out where Scarlet looks identical to Cajun her mama. I thought that pose looked familiar so I pulled up Cajun's page on the Dobereich site.... SAME pose they are in! They look so similar, keep Scarlets photo open and then pull up Cajuns page in a link (1st photo of her)! Wow! www.dobereich.com/cajun.htmltrying to give you the insert for direct comparison. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Great shot Gary! You can see definite Cajun descendant with that pic.
If Zeus is perhaps rethinking his gf choice too bad...Zeus got Reyna...Diesel gets Scar LOL.
