As most people may have heard about a fire in the plant that makes the Acana and Orjen dog food, I have an update.
I was in Bark & Fitz last night getting a couple extra bags, and was speaking to the employee regarding the fire. Together we read an update regarding the repairs, and they stated that the plant should be producing food again by late November, at the latest.
I hope this latest info helps....

Good Grief!! This is the first I've heard about the fire. Guess I'd better get over to the the store in the morning and hope they still have a stock as I don't have enough to carry us over for a month.
Just what we need. . . more dog food issues.

Thanks, Kerrie. I checked out the situation at our local store when I bought a new bag for Jack earlier this week. The employees there were confident that they have enough on hand to easily carry all their customers through.

Just what we need. . . more dog food issues. Seriously! I am so sick of dog food issues, I wish we had a large freezer I would be feeding raw. Price works out almost the same as 90$ a month on a bag of kibble crap!

Well it seems there is conflicting info on the extent of the fire.
I called my local feed store this morning to ensure they have a supply of Grasslands. I'm scooting over there to pick some up just to be on the safe side.
They have been told by their supplier that the fire was limited to one "drying" machine. It has not shut down the entire plant and they are still producing dog food but obviously in reduced quantity so the availability of certain varieties will be affected, until repairs are made.
These guys could sure use a new PR department...lol.

Thanks for suggesting that I check into this further Susan:
So, after another call to Bark & Fitz, she read an update from Champion Foods which stated that they were changing an oven ( possible it had a small fire in it?? ) and that the new one should be operational by late November at the latest.
Hope this helps everyone ......

Ren's (one of their distributors and retailers) said it wouldn't be till the end of December before they were fully operational. Although the fire was in the kitchen affecting the grain free formulas, I suspect the demand will overflow to the regular formulas with grain. So I went and bought 28 bags of food. After the Canidae shortage I really don't want to have to switch all my dogs to another food again.
If you have been using a grain free, consider the Sport and Agility as a good substitute. I have a few of my dogs on the sport/agility and the rest are on the Chicken and potato. I was able to grab 6 bags of puppy, so really happy about that.
The food will still be in production, it is expected that their order will only be tricking in though.

Thanks Monica for letting me know about the situation that happen at Acana. I went out right away and bought three bags. I talked to Champion Pet Foods directly and they said that they should be running back up soon with two ovens. Have to get it Winston loves their food.
