I thought you were in Calgary... sigh. Lisa is in Edmonton and I have not had a chance to meet her and her boy Moose yet. Maybe one day we will do Dobereich reunion in Alberta When does your puppy arrive? There is "quote" option in the top right corner of each post.

On our way back to Montreal now with little Monroe.
I don't think he likes the car too much lol he cries and then falls asleep. Wakes up and cries some more it's like a vicious cycle lol. But all in all he's a great little guy. Has waited each time we stop to do his business outside instead of the car and everything.

Awww. Just reminding people that you can let your puppy sleep in your bed when you bring them home for the first 2 nights, then it's into their crates.....for life. lol

Hahahaha....that didn't come out right. I mean that your dogs "aren't" supposed to be in your beds beyond the first 2 days.....but as most of you know, some of us have caved. LOL

Ahhhhh so the first night with Monroe at home was....painful lol Our little guy doesn't like being walked outside cause it's too cold so he cries to be brought back inside. Even though we don't give in and make him walk anyways he won't do his business outside but instead in our apartment the second he walks in (it seems great lol) The crate....let us forget about it lol There is no way I can keep him in the crate right now at night without getting noise complaints from everyone in Montreal lol. His cries in the crate are so painful it's as though he is being attacked. He cried almost all night (until 4am) and than finally curled up in between us on the couch and we all fell asleep together lol. Yesterday he didn't want to eat, however his morning he ate about 1/2 a cup of food. Anyone have tricks for the crate situation and to help stop the crying? Thanks

I think your boy does not feel comfortable in your house yet. Spend more time playing games inside and outside today. Treat him everytime when he behaves. You need to establish a better connection. I did not take Asha outside at night for the first 3 nights. I set up a peeing place in our bathroom. It was too cold for a baby to pee outside. She learned to do her business outside at daytime and then at night.
Train him to be in the crate at daytime. Use treats to make him feel comfortable there. You may feed him in crate. Don't force him to go there. Don't lock crate and let him sleep there at daytime. He should take the crate as his safe haven. Did you set up a crate in your bedroom? Be consistent and your boy will accept it. Don't allow him to rule your house. Use ears plugs and ignore him. It will stop in 2-3 nights. Talk to your neighbores and explain that you have a puppy and you are working hard to stop his whining.

UPDATE: Me and Little Ganon were in a huge car accident on the 407 Highway, on Friday. Two cars collided on the right side and one of them ping ponged across to left side, smashing directly into my front end. My SUV looks like a totally different vehicle right now. Definitely a write-off. The collision sent Ganon flying towards the front of the car and he ended up getting pinned underneath the passenger seat. A firefighter had to partially rip the seat from the car to get him out. I was so worried for both myself and the new pup. Good news, is that we're both okay. He travelled with me in the ambulance and never left my side at the hospital. I suffered a small back injury. Ganon went to the vet yesterday and everything seems fine. He is eating normally and a lot more active than when we first got him

Yesterday he didn't want to eat, however his morning he ate about 1/2 a cup of food. Anyone have tricks for the crate situation and to help stop the crying? Thanks Hey Randy! Believe me, I'm going through the exact same thing with the winter situation. Ganon definitely is terrified of the cold and will not do his business in it. He hasn't had any accidents in the house, but he will not go out, either. What I've been doing is taking him out... if he does not want to go pee/poop, then I bring him back in and crate him right away. I try again in an hour or so.. once he does his business, I play with him, train him, etc... then crate him again when he's tired. The trick is getting him used to the crate (which just recently happened for me). I made it as comfortable as possible with toys and blankets and cushions. Feed him in there. When he's exhausted then I would put him in there and tuck him in and WAIT until he falls asleep. Leave the crate open. When he wakes up, immediately pick him up and take him out to pee. At night I crated him and when he fell asleep, I closed the crate. He would cry, but I slept downstairs on the couch, so when he saw me, he would stop crying. Once he stopped, I opened the crate and took him out. Eventually, they get used to it. Ganon will go in his crate on his own now and doesn't mind me closing the door or leaving him for long periods of time. ALL THIS BEING SAID, I still have problems with him going pee/poop in the cold. He immediately runs for the steps and tries to go back inside. I'm afraid he is seeing the "outdoors" as a punishment. I'm trying something new: Taking him off leash and throwing snow at him, feeding him snow, etc... I figure I can still catch him at this age if he tries to run away. This morning it worked and he pooped outside. The real challenge is at night.

Randy, try to keep a strict routine and, as much as possible, don't give in!!

Oh no I hope you and ganon are ok after the accident that's horrible. Think about getting a car harness, crate or barrier for travelling. And don't underestimate how fast a determined prey driven dobe puppy can run away hopefully you're letting him off leash In a fenced area. If not you can use a long line..., I would just be scared of him getting onto the road.. But I've heard I'm crazy about being over protective lol.
Crate training is probably going to be tough but it's worth it In the end for your dog to understand they have a safe place. We slept on the floor beside Scarlet's crate for like a week and a half haha.

We slept on the floor beside Scarlet's crate for like a week and a half haha. Harness is definitely needed!! Actually getting one today now that I have my rental. The area isn't fenced, yet because we're in a new neighbourhood, but I'm right next to him the entire time. I shouldn't be doing it, I know . I'll likely stop after today. I just really want him to be comfortable in the snow rather than me tugging at his leash. I tried the long leash and he still hates it, but when we walk out on the street he's really good on a regular leash and heels pretty much automatically. I want to take him out to the dog park, but he needs his 2nd set of boosters first.

I second Andrea concern to have him off-leash. Eden babies may have a high prey drive. He may take after a squirrel or a bird or a car.

I hate to be the downer on your exciting time but just enjoy your time with him and relax there are 2 different sides and opinions on dog parks, they can be good or they can totally mess your dog up. A lot of owners go there to socialize themselves and don't recognize that their dog is badly behaved. I've seen a few situations and unfortunately scarlet has been in the middle sometimes... nothing too serious but I haven't been back to a dog park since last winter. Just be careful with your pup he is going to be going through a few fear imprint stages, so just try to socialize him with dogs you know in a controlled environment. He won't be use to the leash at first, long or short... to him even you are still new lol! I didn't worry about walking or really training until scar was home for a couple weeks and knew that we were her new "people". Let him wear the leash inside the house and run around with it on so he understands it... Enjoy him being this small and cute for now cuz it changes real fast!!! Lol
