I was brushing Kallie's teeth yesterday when I noticed bumps on the inside of her cheek/mouth. Based on my research through Google, it may be puppy warts, or Papilloma virus. Some sites and blogs say to leave it alone and it will clear on itsown...anyone have first-hand experience dealing with these?

Yes - thanks for following up! The warts are actually much larger now. The vet confirmed that these are "puppy warts", a virus that's quite common among puppies whose immune systems have not yet fully developed. It's highly contagious so she likely got it at daycare. Other dogs may carry the virus but if their their immune system is strong, they would be able to fight it off and may not show any symptoms. There's no medication for it...just need the virus to run it's course and wait for her immune system to kick in.
Oh, glad Andreina followed up. I thought they might be warts, though I associate these with older dogs -- because our previous guy got one on the top of his muzzle when he was older. It was quite a sight while it lasted. Cone-shaped and very prominent. And definitely immune system-related, I would say. In his case, it wasn't because his immune system was immature but because it was starting to become compromised as his health problems began to accumulate.

Sorry I didn't see this till now Vicki, but could have saved you a trip to the vet if you had of emailed me. This is not just a puppy thing, it is a viral wart and will effect most any dog that comes into contact with it for the first time. For sure it was likely picked up at daycare. Just like kids at school, you're dog is bound to be exposed to about everything at daycare. The good thing is that once she's built an immunity to these she will not likely get them again.
Thanks, Monica. We will definitely email you with questions in the future! When we looked in Kallie's mouth a few days later and saw the size and shape of the warts, we got concerned and whisked her to the vet's the very next day.
As reference for those who need, here's what it looked like!!
Sorry for the late follow up! Once the warts started going away, they disappeared fairly quickly. I think the entire process took about 6 weeks, then 7-10 days after her last wart healed, she was allowed back in daycare!

Dobereich: So about the BBQ, does anyone have a preference to Sat or Sun? Once we nail down a day I can invite others.

Andreina: I like Saturday just because I don't have to rush home for work on a sunday

Dobereich: I think either day is OK for me, although the weather could be a big indicator.

Andreina: Yeah, true well we are open and I think everyone else is too? So maybe set for Sat and if the weather is bad we move to sunday?
Aug 12, 2014 20:59:57 GMT -5
Dobereich: ya, we could do that.

Dobereich: So far the weather is calling for 24 both days, no rain... but honestly, they can't predict a day ahead of time, I'm not trusting a 2 week forecast. LOL
