Okay....it's just after 10pm, and I'm exhausted!!! Kazi and I seemed to work extra hard today....or at least I feel like it. The dogs are fed, business outside complete, and I'm heading off to bed, and I'm confident Kazi will be right behind me tonight!!!

Sorry that didn't work. I'd try the chicken wire, or just some foil wrap. You can also place the dumbbell in a large and shallow box, so that he has to reach in to take it, no reward for the bouncing. I just think that you have already made progress in teaching him to go out and retrieve, so you might not want to undo that by shortening your distance again. Failing that is the double handling, one person keeps a long line for a mild level of compulsion on your command. But knowing Jack, I think you'd be best to try the box... a box that hold a 12 pack of dog food cans is usually good enough. Thanks, Monica. It's all grist for the mill. At this point, we're not sure what's going to work. And I confess that, after spending most of Saturday outside at the training field (my feet were blocks of ice by the end of the session), we slacked off yesterday and did NO training. And this week may be hit and miss, as well. It's the time of year!

Okay so the cutest thing happened tonight. ;D First I have to explain, when Scarlet gets fed, we have her sit, down, long stay, whatever we decide to ask for - we mix it up. Anyway you get the idea, she does some type of command before eating... Recently we have been working really hard on having her move into heel quickly from front and sitting tight beside... So, Julian put the bowl down, she sat across the room, he called her to come.... She jogged over, sat in front and swung around into heel so quickly and perfectly without any command... Just sat there looking up at him like "k can i eat now?" It was adorable haha. I know she knows how to do these things, because when she wants to - she does it without flaw. But the other 98% of the time, for some reason, she plays stupid and acts like she needs a guide to get into heel. Frustrating! lol

Oh boy . . .I know exactly what you mean Andreina. I do the same thing with Quin - make him sit/down before I place the bowl in front of him and then I make him wait for about 5 secs before he gets the OK to eat. That's how I finally got him to do "down" consistently. Right now the "recall" is his stumbling block. In class you've watched him do that creeping-saunter-over-thing. "Ah do I have toooo?" Well sometimes he just stands and stares at me when we're out on the trail/in the yard. Drives me nuts. Some days he's great and comes almost immediately but most of the time it's iffy. Yup.. Monica was right he's a willfull little bugger...lol. Guess I'll have to try incorporating recall into dinner time too.

Just made a batch of doggie cookies and doggie muffins for Sunday. Human stuff to come soon lol.

Alright.....we've got liver, cupcakes...what else can the dogs eat? They're going to be "useless" for the training session.

We need to get planning with the treats for Sunday, so that we don't all bring the same thing...lol. So far we have;
Stew (Barb x Kerrie) meat balls (Todd x Rachel) green (Cesar) salad (Susan) treats (Andreina) Veggie tray, pumpernickel and spinach dip, coleslaw, coffee and tea (me)
There are a lot of liver treats already in place for the dogs, so be creative for the dog's treats. Barb (or Kerrie), you asked for other ideas, here's a few that come to mind;
Dried apricots, apples, and bananas raw beef bones chicken's feet tendons or bullwinkle rawhide (8-10 inch sticks or retriever rolls, nothing that a dog can choke on)
At this time I believe the following people are coming, although some others have mentioned they might show up and might be best to count on a couple extras.
Barb x Kerrie Andreina x Julian Todd x Rachel Mandy Susan Sonia, Sean, and Heidi Nicole Joanne (and Mark?) Me
Dogs;
Dante, Kazi, Scarlet, Reyna, Charlie, Quin, Diva, Duke, Rumour, Presto.
People that mentioned they might show up, Lana with Diesel, Kris x Tony with Winston Not sure if I'm missing anyone, so please add you name here (just copy update my list).
Looking like there's going to be 14 people for sure and 10 dogs.

I'm going to try and make some short bread cookies for everyone to take home but that depends on how tired I am and if I have time...I'm still cleaning the house and the dog treats are occupying the oven. I'm bringing turkey meatballs for the dogs and my own version of poulet in a blanket lol! See you guys tomorrow! I'm still thinking of something meaty to bring but not sure what yet....ahhh whatever...I'll bring something edible for the humans

Enjoy the feast, everyone. Bill, Jack and I will be thinking of you -- and salivating.
Me, I'll be at home doing battle with flour, shortening, etc. as I make the pastry for butter tarts. I do mean "doing battle," as pastry making is an art I've never mastered. The the butter-tart recipe is my mum's — and I love the finished product. But getting to it is an ordeal. Everything, including me, ends up covered in flour, and believe me, the air turns blue along the way. When I pull out my mother's recipe, Bill knows enough to just leave the house. LOL.
